“Co” my gawd damned asshole
Here’s the thing, Painter had his team as a 1 seed and conference champ. Just because he built a program where performance like this is to be expected shouldn’t exclude him from awards like this. Currently he is the best coach in the B1G and has been for awhile. I think Co is perfectly fine here and both are deserving. Congrats Fred

I'm not ready to hear rational well reasoned takes right now.

Yeah I agree, if it was "Most Improved Coach" then of course it would be Hoiberg. Overall accomplishments still fall under "Coach Of The Year." Someday when Hoiberg is on his 10th or 11th conference championship we'll want him to be given the award those years too.

Pretty hard to argue with this, especially with almost every season there is going to be one possibly two teams that out-perform pre-season expectations like we did this year. What were we picked pre? Like 12th? So yea Fred deserves to at minimum be one of the finalists if not win it but again you bring up a really good point about what the award is for-best coach this year. As fans we just have to have something to bitch about, I growled a little too when it was first announced but takes like yours brought me back down

I took a quick glance at the Wikipedia page, and there’s now been 5 co coaches of the year since 08-09. So about 1/3 years the conference does this. I’d say it’s a pretty fair way to acknowledge Fred on his great unexpected year while also acknowledge painter on building a juggernaut of a program and keeping the level of eliteness going.

Purdue’s non con was insane. Wins over 11 Gonzaga, 7 Tenn, 4 Marquette. Those wins were in a span of three days. Additional non con wins over a a really good Alabama team and an Arizona team that was #1 at the time

Brice Williams not making one of these teams seems odd to me. I don't hate that a guy who I think is at times our best player and is only going to be better next year when he doesn't have to play the point is flying a bit under the radar.

Co?

But these are awared by the media and anotehr one from the coaches. I assume this means there was a vote. And they just happened to end up in a tie in both votes?

If it was an organization who just named them co-, that tells me they couldn't decide and just went with both of them to relive themselves of making a decision. But if it was a vote, there must have been an equal number of people thinking one of them was the COY. Right?

I don’t understand why Nebraska never stacks there non con. 1-4 in those games helps your NET ranking a lot more than going 5-0 against Rider level schools. And who knows, maybe you get lucky and win 2 or 3.
