“The Platinum Board (tPB) is the internet’s finest source of Nebraska football news, pornstar of the day, MLPFC updates, Sean Callahan ridicule, and political shouting matches as of January 2024.”
Led by HuskerGarrett his rise to stardom has dominated the competition amongst the Nebraska sports media. The announcement of Coach Rhule was made on tPB well in advance of any other media outlet. In fact the announcement was ridiculed by the clowns directing the Tater Island website (Sparkle Callahan et al).

There are a ton of great coaches with better opportunities who are working as analysts either for the experience, location, because the job they want isn't open, etc.

Heck, Jim Leonhard could be a 2 million dollar DC somewhere, but he spent the last year as an analyst at freaking Illinois.
I think being an analyst allows you to stay in the game after a head coaching job and rejuvenate. Rather than being completely away from the game, this kind of job can keep you connected without the responsibility of a head coaching job while getting paid by Houston.

This is where I'm at.

We already did the ST analyst thing and it was a massive failure. I feel like we still need that ST coach ON FIELD in 2024. We're not good enough there to start taking shortcuts.

If you have Dana friggin Holgorsen on deck to be Co OC/playcaller....then yes you move Foley to analyst. But man I would not feel good about our STs. And since we're Nebraska, every game has to come down to a FG at the end.

It's a tough call. I'm not excited about losing an onfield ST coach.
if most of our games are coming down to a FG in 2024 we'll be cleaning house on the offesnive staff

I'm just saying, it's been true of Nebraska football for almost a decade now. No matter what the talent differential is, the game is more likely than not gonna come down to the final possession.

I'm predicting more of the same in 2024. I'd love to have some comfortable wins this coming year...but honestly that's not the Nebraska way.

I should have clarified, but I fully expect us to clean house on offense after this season. there's no way the offense goes from historically awful to good in 1 season, and given the talent infusion there won't be anyone to blame but some coaches

Why would Holgorsen come here to be an analyst? He has to have a lot better options doesn’t he, or is it because he is going to get paid from his last coaching gig anyways?
Maybe he doesn’t have a ton of bettter options. He just got fired from a jumped-up G5 school and never exactly lit the world on fire there. I think we are really overestimating his market value at this point.

If he comes here, even as an analyst, he is walking into a situation with a 5-star qb in an offense coming off of a historically awful season. It’s almost certainly going to be wildly better and everyone who touches that side of the ball is going to be looking for some of the credit.

That seems like a decent start to an image rehab plan after getting canned.

I'd rather send one of the other offensive position coaches packing than eliminate the special teams coach position.

As soon as “analysts” can coach during practice , the special teams coordinatoras a full time on field coach will go away right?

AFAIK that's not under consideration anymore. At least not something that will happen in the near future.

Apparently there's a 'duty to mitigate' clause in Holgorsen's contract with Houston that says he's supposed to try to get a new job that pays something like whatever his full market value as a coach is. Maybe the delay in announcing anything with him is just so that he can act like he was looking for another HC job but couldn't find one.

Paul Chryst supposedly turned down Cockeye for the OC job, as there are reports the job was his if he wanted it. He chose to stay on as an analyst at Texas, so there must be times when coaches definitely think the analyst route is better, or they may just need a break from coaching.

Also, Chryst had the same "duty to mitigate" clause in his Wisconsin buyout, but again, he chose the analyst route. It looks like he negotiated a significantly reduced buyout with Wisconsin, but I would say that is one situation that is quite close to Holgorsen.

"McIntosh told reporters Sunday night he and Chryst had agreed to a buyout significantly less than was called for in the contract.
The agreement is obviously good for UW.

But why would Chryst agree to take less money? Chryst was not available Monday but he had, under the terms of his contract, a duty to mitigate in the buyout section.

In short, if Chryst took a Division I coaching job or a job in pro football during the term of the liquidated damages, UW officials could deduct money from the buyout."

Could be possible that Holgorsen is still negotiating with Houston on what he could get from his buyout if he decided to take an analyst route vs. staying out of coaching for a year vs. getting a coordinator or lower level HC job. Could also be "stalling" to give the impression that he wasn't able to find another coaching option and the analyst position is his best option available, and thus the duty to mitigate was met?
