Gas grill, Smoker, or both?

Anyone have any opinions or other on the Weber Searwood pellet grill/smoker?

I'm finally gonna take the plunge and get in on this. All the vids and comments I've seen, read all seem very good and encouraging.

It would sitting next to a Weber propane grill at our oly pen property and be used a lot from March thru Oct.

Cannot wait to do my own fresh tuna kabobs, etc.

Looking forward to yore opinions and thoughts.
I got a Masterbuilt 900 gravity feed charcoal grill two years ago from Costco that has the pizza oven attachment. It is extremely versatile to switch from grilling to smoking and will run at 700°. You can run a blend of charcoal and wood in it. And i have used it in a couple small town rib competitions the last 2 years and placed 4th out of 25 or so both years.

My buddy has one. He seems to like it. Can it do a whole brisket cook and how well does it regulate temperature. If I didn’t already have the recteq with the 40 pound hopper I would get this new one.

I haven’t done brisket on it yet, but have done multiple pork butts (not the same but a longer cook still) and it regulates temps really well. It is nearly a set it and forget it type cook but I would imagine with the length of cook a brisket takes you would want to add charcoal during the cook. Reddit has a dedicated forum for Masterbuilts that has a lot of good information l

I've got a Masterbuilt Gravity Series 800, a Char-Griller Akorn, and a 22" Blackstone Adventure Ready portable. (The Gravity 800 also has a griddle insert if I need more griddle space than the Blackstone, and if that still ain't enough I'll put my 18" cast iron skillet on the Akorn.)

You want both depending on what you are cooking. Gas for the searing stuff like steaks. Smoker for the low and slow stuff like pork butt, ribs, brisket.

Wife just got me a Traeger 575 Pro for Christmas. It'll be here next week. Starting to do some reading on it, but know there's a lot of experience here. What am I in for? How hard is it to learn how to use it right. Any must have accessories? Any great recipe sites?

Nice! Traegers are pretty simple to use you should be rolling in no time.

Shirt learning curve, start with some easier things, pulled pork for example. You’ll love it!

Pretty simple. I went from a dad that couldn't do grilled cheese correctly to a grilling legend in my family.

If you can’t operate a pellet smoker I have my doubts you’d be able to even get on this site. Very easy. Can’t go wrong with 3-2-1 ribs. Rub on the ribs overnight. 220 on the pellet grill. 3 hours uncovered. 2 hours wrapped in foil, 1 hour uncover. I usually put on some bbq sauce at the 1 hour step. I think I use hickory pellets for pork. A good accessory is the disposable contains in the grease bucket. A lot of people use smoke tubes for a more smoky flavor on pallet grills but I’ve never used one.

Make sure you vacuum out bottom periodically. The cooking part is easy.

Smoked some Salmon earlier, just threw a smoked ham on the kamado. Heard double smoked ham is amazing. I've got some raspberry chipotle BBQ sauce and apple cider I'm going to configure into some type of glaze. Taking leftovers to family later.

I also smoked a Salmon. Covered it with brown sugar, Kinder's Buttery Steakhouse spices, with shots of lemon and lime juice. Smoked for 4hrs, hit it with apple juice when needed. Served with Saltine crackers and more lemon or lime juice. Kids wolfed it down in seconds.

Salmon might be the best thing I've smoked. What smoker do you have? My kamado is too difficult to keep below 200 so I can maybe only get an hour on before it starts to over cook if I throw them on when the smoke turns blue and before it's preheated.

The little chief smokers are best for fish imo.

Also use soaked Alder chips .

Fellas, I’m coming to the brain trust, but we are getting a house built and I need to have a pretty good grill set up. What do you all have or think is a good set up? I want both gas and smoker. Traeger? Green Mountain I have been told has a better technology as far as the app goes.
Large Weber kettle. Nothing else needed and it actually tastes like wood smoke unlike the pellet grills. Most have no idea what real bbq is.
