Fellas, I’m coming to the brain trust, but we are getting a house built and I need to have a pretty good grill set up. What do you all have or think is a good set up? I want both gas and smoker. Traeger? Green Mountain I have been told has a better technology as far as the app goes.

Traeger has an app where you can pre set stuff right? That’s all I care about, I don’t wanna watch something for 6-8 hours lol
Yes I think so. I haven’t tried to pre program but when I have a 13 lb brisket on it’s nice to be able to watch meat temp and grill temp and adjust as I see fit from the app. It’s pretty bad ass.

That sounds awesome and exactly what I would need. How long you had yours?

Traeger for smoking (or really any pellet grill, for smoking they don't really matter imo), and a Blackstone for grilling. Don't need a damn thing else, save for a cast iron skillet to finish steaks after a beautiful sear on the Blackstone.

My neighbor has a black stone, a huge Weber gas grill and a huge traeger. He may be captain america 🇺🇸

I admire him. I've thought about getting a gas grill as well but don't really have the need. Sear on the Blackstone and finish in a pan. I'm the guy that says "I can make a better steak at home than most restaurants", except I actually back it up. Don't have a 1800* broiler like I would like and someday aspire to buy, but I can get pretty damn close.

Dandy-looking piece of roast beast..... 😎

I don't get too excited about gas grills brands or features. There isn't any difference between a $300 grill and a $1,000 Weber that matters. Weber might last longer but you can buy 2 or 3 of the cheaper brands and still come out ahead. Might change my tune if I was building it into an outdoor kitchen. Might do that some day.

I had problems with a Traeger so have a bias against them. I seem to be in the minority so probably just had bad luck. Camp Chef Woodwind is solid as an alternative.

I haven't had a green egg but some friends have them. Those people love them and talk about them with every opportunity. Can't decide if its like bragging about their Lexus to a Chevy owner or if they truly work that great.

except I actually back it up.

I have both - a gas grill that's tapped into my home natural gas line and a Z-grill (which is a cheaper traeger type pellet grill). I have the bluetooth probe accessory for the Z-grill and it's a game changer.

Like @RedSeaRising, I use a cast iron skillet to sear the ever loving shit out of steaks in combo with the gas grill and I can get near high end steakhouse quality out of that combo.

I've got a couple of neighbors that appear to specifically use their pellet grill and/or smokers to sit in their driveways, smoke cigars and drink beer all afternoon. I'm starting to look at my gas grill like it's a dirty word. I might be doing this wrong.

I see the need for BOTH now.
The AZ house has a BULL gas grill and ^^ now ^^needs a smoker next to it.

I have both. But my smoker is a Kamado style that uses charcoal. It’s great to grill a steak, smoke ribs, brisket, etc.

But there are times I just want to grill something quicker. That’s when I use the gas grill. It saves me the 20 minutes waiting for charcoal to heat up.
