Foley

It might give someone who is more competent a shot at fixing what he clearly can't fix. And I'm not talking about a shitty snapper on FG's either. Although that should have been identified as a weakness by Diner Guy a long time ago. Maybe even in time to do something about it.
Witucki was Ortiz’ backup last year. If he was struggling I think it would’ve been addressed.

Rhule is likely waiting for you to have a heart attack before he cans Foley and promotes the prodigy ST staffer you’re referring to.

One of us has a man crush on Foley and it isn't me. That's cool. I hope it brings you much joy.

Foley needs to go... obvious to everyone.

But the question then is what do we do with that 10th spot? With analysts being able to coach on the field now, I'd prefer that special teams goes to an analyst and bring in a stud recruiter. Maybe split ILBs and OLBs?

I don’t see Rhule firing him.
That’s his guy.
Best case is restructure and move him to a different role
Keep him on staff in some sort of role as an analyst - he is great for the.culture Rhule is building. But let him work with the tackles and tight ends in an analyst role. He absolutely should not be taking up one of our 10 assistant spots.

Agree, I know recruiting is less of a factor now that assistants can go out on the road but goddam he offers nothing in that category and his units are garbage

I think Bill Busch should have a permanent open invitation to be recruiting coordinator and ST coach

I think we need to pump the brakes on Busch coming back to staff. Not saying it won’t ever happen, but Busch and Rhule really don’t have any connection.
He never will, I’m just making a comment. I will also add every time we have had a special teams dedicated only our special teams have been special

I don't know if this is a fact, but I bet it is - does Rhule (or has he) fire assistants in-season? I am guessing, no.

I didn't expect Foley to be gone during the season, but he has more than shown to be subpar. Offseason would be the time he gets moved to a non-coaching position to make room for a new ST coach.

I’ve wondered the same. I think Rhule generally sticks with his guys through the season barring an HR or legal issue. Part of his culture is having his teams’ backs along with “taking care of his own” as far as his coaching staff is concerned. Trending this far down in Year 2 is pretty detrimental though. Quite literally they can only get better from here. The hard work of the defense and even the good works the offense is showing at times are both being squandered because of his group's ineptitude.

Maybe Rhule quietly demotes Foley to an analyst role and elevates Josh Martin back to one of the Main 10 assistant positions as a mid-season option? Martin served as SMU's STC under Sonny Dykes, so it would be a role he'd be familiar with, along with familiarity with being elevated to Main 10 once before. Foley can still serve as an analyst the rest of the season if he wants, but he's been given notice he'll either remain an analyst for the team going forward or be aggressively encouraged to start looking for work after the season. It wouldn't need to require a full reconstruction, just a different dude they have to answer to on the sidelines until the season is over. Perhaps having a different manager breathing down their neck can get them playing less sloppy when practice translates to games.

Has this, in fact, been announced somewhere?

Man, I wish it was, but no. That's all just a theoretical scenario from me playing armchair head coach in my post. I don't think anyone would say Rhule didn't show grace by making those moves though, even if he's not known for mid-season staff changes.
