Foley’s brother speaks out

It’s bat shit enough to be real.
Unfortunately it's just not realistic that this guy would only have 230 twitter followers.

I remember watching BC upset Notre Dame in '93. IIRC that game was the Sports Illustrated cover the following week. Glenn Foley was the QB of that BC team.

I honestly the majority of Dean's fans are Wilson Dittman types who just started watching CFB 5 yrs ago. They have no knowledge of CFB and no idea that Ed Foley's brother is a bit of a folk hero among BC fans. Glenn Foley would have 15k-20k followers min if he were on X.

They went to Cherry Hill East? I have a Cherry Hill East baseball shirt from one of my college teammates.

Ed’s brother has been sending out some heat on Twitter after Ed was let go

i like him danielle campbell GIF by CBS

Are we sure Foley’s brother isn’t @OlRed? (Or whoever that guy was 🤔)

I just picked a somewhat random former Husker from recent memory who actually played on the team during the Twitter era - Brandon Kinnie. He has 9K followers on Twitter.

Do you really think a possibly-insane 54 year old man who played for a far, far less popular program 32 years ago and has had no notoriety of any kind since being in the Arena Football League 23 years ago is THAT well known?? Haha. I've literally never heard of the guy until today, I had to look him up to know he was a real person at all, but it's not like the account was made in the past few days, ya know? Then I would assume it was fake. But some freak playing the long game on a Glenn Foley impression account is SOOOOO much weirder than it just being the actual Glenn Foley hahaha

Glenn Foley was 5th in the Heisman voting in 1993 (!)....and you're comparing him to Brandon Kinnie. Read that sentence again and let it sink in.

Also BC's win over ND in 1993 is probably their biggest footbal W of the last 35 yrs. And Foley was the QB for it. I'm guessing he has some minor folk hero status with their fanbase. I remember watching that game vividly in 1993.

Just curious: what year did you start watching CFB?

Not to mention the Foley Catheter is named after him.

Folk hero of Nebraska football around the same time, Matt Turman, has 551 followers.

1994 is the first year I can remember at all (I was 5) haha. Who knows, maybe you're right! 🤷‍♂️ It seems sort of absurd to me for some reason but absurdity and folk heroes are part of why I love college football.

EDIT: Another comparison just because I think this is a funny convo, I really have zero idea whether twitter Glenn Foley is Glenn Foley haha BUT - Heath Shuler finished 2nd in the Heisman race that same year Foley finished 5th, played for Tennessee, went on to play for the Redskins and then became a US Congressman - 8K followers.

The reason I used Kinnie as an example is because he played while Twitter existed, anybody from before that era is gonna be a crapshoot when it comes to social media followings.

Matt Turman finished 5th in the Heisman voting and beat a #1 team during his NU tenure?

Wow, Turman was better than I thought! I thought he was a walk-in who played in one game where he handed off to the RB 55 times.

I figured as much. And I appreciate you answering.

The early 90s featured a lot of "moon landing" TV moments. There was no internet...but you'd find out somehow that a #1 team was losing and you'd run to the TV to watch it live. It was rather exhilarating. Because you had no other way of watching it. Everyone remembers these games for some reason.

Another one that comes to mind: 1994 Michigan vs Colorado hail mary. Literally everyone that was a CFB fan watched that play live. An insane occurrence when you realize there was no internet prompting you, you had to just find it on your own.

The 93 BC/ND game was another one that everyone watched live. BC won on a last second FG. ND was #1 team in the nation at the time.

There were a few of those games in the 90s that everyone remembers. It's different now bc if a game is close everyone gets 50 push notifications on their phone to go see it. Back then you just had to magically tune in. It was crazy.

The players that were part of those rare games - like Kordell Stewart - have that etched on their resume permanently. Bc like 30m people were watching, etc. Much bigger audiences back then.

**for some reason I remember the 1990 game where GT beat #1 UVA like this too. But I probably remember that bc we played GT in the bowl game that yr and they won a split NC

That GT/UVA game was also played at the same time as the NU/CU game. I remember being at the NU game as a kid and enjoying our 12-0 shutout (which collapsed in the fourth quarter) while listening to the stadium announcer keep us updated on the GT/UVA game. Without the internet you had to wait for updates like that where everyone found out at the same time.

We were pilgrims but we had a good football program.

I think it’s actually his brother

I saw a thing on X like 2 days ago where a guy was saying that GT/UVA game was the greatest CFB of all time. People definitely remember this game LOL. Shine comes off bc both programs have fallen off a bit

No but he is a folk hero from around the same time to a much bigger and more rapid fan base.
