Who are these people voting for 5-0?

Screen-Shot-2021-07-19-at-10-05-58-AM.png

2020* = First 5 games: 1-4 (season: 3-5)
2019 = First 5 games: 3-2 (season: 5-7)
2018* = First 5 games: 0-5 (season: 4-8)

**oddities**
*2020 = China virus + Kevin Warren = no non-conf. cupcakes
*2018 = Akron cunts cancelled opening game, minimum would have been a win and who knows for momentum/experience etc.

Who are these people voting for a 5-0 start with this schedule and the past 3 years? Lordy

Anything worse than 3-2 is...

that's all folks GIF by Space Jam's all folks GIF by Space Jam

It HAS to be 4-1. Nebraska will be the most talented team in 4 of the first 5. There is no excuse to not be 4-1 in the first five. Anything else is a failure and can’t be analyzed any differently.

If you start 4-1 with a marginally respectable game against OU and getting to 7 or 8 wins becomes very manageable.

I could just as easily see them pooching it against Illinois, winning the gimme games, getting boat raced at OU, and then managing to eek one out against MSU.
They'll beat Illinois, Fordham, and Buffalo. I know people are all cucky about the Illinois game last season, but the odds of a new staff with new players and a new system coming out and winning game 1 are not good. Could also be a pretty favorable Nebraska crowd after a year of no Skers in person

I think you could recover from 3-2 but I agree that the margin for error becomes vanishingly small if you're not 4-1 after 5

The Illinois DC was at Mizzou last year. He’s a 4-2-5 guy who plays with 3 safeties and they’re trying to blend that scheme with Bielema’s 3-4. They simply don’t have the horses to run what they want to on defense and they’ve got a kicker playing WR and a WR playing kicker on offense.

If you drop a game to an Illinois or MSU, the outside voices get louder and louder. Honestly, I’d project 3-1 in the first 4 games with relative ease. Maybe Illinois scores a late TD and covers. But I would circle the MSU game as the pivotal one in the season if all goes as I feel it will to that point.

Dude, I hope so. Trust me, I know we "should" win that game. We're favored, this is an experienced team at key positions (although Illinois has even more "super seniors"), Illinois has a new staff, etc. . We should have won that game last year, though. We DEFINITELY should have won the Minnesota game with their team decimated with COVID hold-outs. There have been a number of such games. You just can't assume at this point, and if anything, you should assume that over a five-game stretch, they're going to lose one that they shouldn't.

1. Illinois is going through a complete system change. We should have beat them last year. We will win this game by 3 or 4 touchdowns.

2. We will beat Fordham by 4 or 5 touchdowns.

3. Buffalo has been good but they lost their coach, their coaching, and a bunch of their players to Kansas. We will win this game by several touchdowns.

4. We will lose to Oklahoma by 1 or 2 touchdowns.

5. We will beat Michigan State by 1 or 2 touchdowns. They're still in rebuilding mode, but Tucker will have them ready to play.

We will start the season 4-1.

Idk if this is crazy or not but I think that fat ass is gonna eventually make Illini a 7-5 to 8-4 team. Like 2023 or something.

I mean shit they should be able to easily recruit at a 7-5 level talent even historically being shit and having neighboring schools come into Illinois and take the top talent. Chicagoland + STL + rest of Illinois state + Indiana + wherever else you can get players = certainly a better location to recruit to than most in the midwest

Should be 4-1. Will probably be 3-2 because we'll find a way to lose in East Lansing.
Fuck that is the game I am worried about.

Illinois we should be focused and just frankly more talented.
FU and BWWu should just be better
OU is a top 4 team
Sparty seems like the game where we piss our pants

I am 100% on board with this theory

Even if he’s just okay, our division got tougher when Illinois hired him.

This is exactly how I feel.

They should get to 3-0
Go to OU and give them hell
Then starts the next stretch of games.
  • Sparty
  • NW
  • Michigan
  • Minnesota
  • Purdue
I think all of those games are very winnable, but should be a lot of tight games. Winning vs sparty would be good to get some momentum

Then you have your back 3
  • OSU
  • Wiscy
  • Cockeye
need to win at least 1 here this year IMO.

A healthy dose of zone from Mel Tucker on defense and then idk what the fuck they’ll do on offense. He had two pretty good players at Colorado he really leaned on.

Sparty and NW you should get. Sparty is still awful on offense and the book is out on Mel Tucker defensively. For the NW game, the away team hasn’t won a single game in the Frost vs Fitz matchup. If you could get to 5-1 when Michigan gets to town you’ll likely have two top 25 teams battling it out at night in Lincoln. Really gotta like the chances then.
