Probably bc they hoped they could get to 6 & it would be spun easier bc of his lack of experience
They were confident the Illinois win was going to happen. It would have if Casey didn’t go down. Why would the Athletic Dept approve an SI reporter to go behind the scenes for a week, write a piece to spotlight Mick, then delay the piece until Monday when it was supposed to drop Friday? This plus the internal Nebraska social media blitz on Mick & also the BTN Journey doing a piece on Mick last week
Ewald himself is Tweeting positive stuff about Mick & shooting down rumors of others.
The “ASU wants to talk to Mick” may have been leaked by our own athletic dept (The north stadium mouthpiece himself was the 1st to circulate that). This is to elicit an emotional response by our own fanbase so “not to lose” Mick to ASU
I think it’s him. Gonna be tough to justify when we look terrible to close out the year bc we can’t score
If it’s Mick fine & I agree just announce it already.
The only other scenario I see is an old guy out of the game like Mendenhall or Patterson having a deal secured & Mick being their #2.
If our AD fired his HC three weeks early at a $7.5 million price tag so that he could hire a guy nobody else wants as their HC and who he already has under contract, and then was placing a bet that his football team — without a functioning offensive line and that had already lost to maybe the worst team in FBS and hasn’t beaten a ranked team since God knows when — would upset a top 20 team and allow him to win the public relations war when he announced the hiring of a guy with no head coaching or coordinating experience, we have bigger problems than someone in the AD responding to rumors on twitter.

Turd doesn’t strike me as a gentleman that keeps that level of company.
True. But Brendan Stai did worse, and was reprimanded. If Turd is keeping everything under wraps, the question is why would he even allow Doug Ewald, his right hand man, and supposedly the only one in the know besides Turd, to reply to rumors.

Stai got ripped in front of the whole department after his dipshittery

Nebraska was confident that they'd beat a top 20 team...really? The coaches and players..of course they were confident about beating Illinois, that's how you approach every game. But there's no way everybody in the AD thought that.

It just makes no sense to string along the process if they have actually chosen to hire Mickey Joseph.

Why do you think the only other scenario is someone that isn't currently coaching? The more likely scenario is that it hasn't been announced because whoever is going to get hired is finishing out a season elsewhere. Your scenario is way way way more far fetched.

My theory is that it's not Aranda (or at the very least, there's nothing close to a 'done deal' with him), and that Doug is replying because one of the most-followed Husker fan accounts is putting out bad information about something definitive.

Yeah it’s going to be Mickey. Hopefully he can make some splashes in recruiting/the portal.

Husker fans talk about Mickey’s recruiting like we have a top 15 class right now. Still a ton of work to do
No it’s not. I don’t understand all the butthurt over this tweet either.

At this point very little chance it can be Mickey or anyone not currently coaching. This week would have been perfect timing for someone that isn't currently coaching. If they were set on Mickey there's zero reason to wait for the announcement that makes sense to me.

Only scenario that it's someone out of coaching is they're going back and forth on negotiations. That's pretty stupid too though because at some point you just have to say it's time to move on.

What would be the recruiting rules if hypothetically you hired Urban or Rhule to start December 1st? Could they reach out to recruits? Could recruits reach out to them?

I would expect significant negotiations for a big time hire. Not sure on recruiting rules.

If there are real legs to this rumor of a hire being announced, it really does seem it needs to be a bigger name guy not currently coaching. Urban, Petersen or Rhule make the most sense. I really like Petersen, but think Rhule is the most likely of those three names.

And I love Mickey, but we are not in a position to be rolling the dice on a guy with no HC experience, ever. If it is Mick, Turd failed in this coaching search.

People can not honestly still think it will be Urban, right?
