Doomsday Clock

Possibly. But like in a war with Russia, lower yield weapons would likely be used on the battlefield and not ICBMs fired at cities. Although I could see Iran targeting Israel or possibly trying to smuggle a bomb into the US.
I just don't see a traditional war with Russia happening. That's why we're currently fighting a proxy war via Ukraine. Russia knows it's virtually impossible to physically invade the US. Fighting on their turf wouldn't go well for them because they're basically surrounded by NATO-allied forces and as we've recently discovered, their lower-yield ground game is doo-doo. Which is why I honestly think if it ever came to outright war with Russia, it would likely end in a global reset due to both sides nuking each other. I think Putin is crazy enough to say "If I can't have it, no one can."

Can you honestly say you think we are closer to “doomsday” than any other point since 1947?
Considering the Doomsday Clock is speaking specifically about nuclear danger, other than the Cuban missile crisis, I think we are more likely closer than we have been. If anything, just based on Putin's rhetoric and the fact that he seems to be backed into a corner with few options.

I would venture to guess that most people are pessimistic because of the extreme hyperbole that finds its way in the headlines or even into Politicians mouths. It is extremely common for the media or Politicians to throw out crazy things like "If we don't enact this, our planet isn't going to be here in 20 years" or "If we don't make this change now, in 15 years, all of the East Coast of the United States will be under water. Every time those things don't come true, it makes rational people more and more skeptical of what is behind that kind of talk, given that it is very rarely rooted in hard core scientific studies. When you peel back the layers of the onion, it's usually one of two things. An agenda driven by money (getting some financial benefit from the legislation that they are proposing) or a passion for change that is a little misguided.

If people were a little more honest about things up front, it would go a long way. For instance, do carbon emissions have an impact on our environment? Yes. Do they have the impact that most of these people would like us to believe they are having? No. Now, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't do the responsible thing and slowly pivot towards things that have less of an impact on our environment, but it doesn't mean that we need to do it immediately or half of the world is going to die tomorrow.
It doesn’t help that our political system is overtly corrupt through our absolutely absurd campaign finance laws, which then further corrupts candidates once in office. Add in the fact that they continue to either not vote on or vote down popular initiatives like the stock ban act, M4A, etc, and then add in this dogshit culture of access journalism where journalists are afraid to go after the powerful and this what we’ve got - a societal climate of sensationalism where people don’t trust institutions or one another.

Israel will tell us when they have one. It’s not complicated yo.

If the world ends, we can all take great comfort in knowing that it was over a very important issue of vital importance to the US, like a centuries-long disputed eastern European national boundary.

I guess that's better than when it almost ended because of a bunch of pigs that lived in Cuba or something

This is dangerous misinformation.
The clock considers other potentially cataclysmic events caused by man besides nuclear, such as climate change, which has been considered since 2007.

Dangerous misinformation? Who's trafficking in hyperbole now? haha

I stand corrected. That said, they did state their reason for moving the clock up was specifically the war in Ukraine. And historically speaking, nuclear/technological devastation was their original measuring stick.

Sorry, wasn't being serious with the dangerous misinformation lol

(Sarcasm Font) If only Hillary would have won, we’d all be happy and shooting rainbows out of our butts.
