You missed my point; there is only so much money available. If he wants an unlimited budget on everything, then Nebraska isn't the place for him. Or any other coach for this discussion.

I've yet to hear one time that Rhule has been denied NIL funds to land a player. OTOH, I've heard (read on here) just the opposite.

If Rhule got the money he wanted every time he asked, CharMar Brown would be a RB2 here.

I think Nebraska is going to be okay. I think penn st has a list of guys and rhule is toward the bottom of that list. If he goes who cares, itll be our chance at a new coach zac, lane, etc

This is another way to look at it. We’re one last minute drive away from losing to Maryland and a lot of our fan base thinking Penn State needs to take Rhule from us.

Kraft will slow play this and hope that we finish strong, it will be more justifiable if we win 10 or 11 this year. Especially if we beat them
Ya I'm worried if we get to 10 wins that we will lose him to Penn State, especially if we beat them as you referenced. They can't really hire anyone right now anyway unless they are out of work like an Urban Meyer or Nick Saban who is just doing broadcasting. So he has plenty of time to do his interviews.

Great point, Im sure Pat Kraft is going to be Nebraska's biggest fan for the rest of the year.

False.

Brown eventually wanted more money then we were paying EJ. And Rhule, not because of lack of NIL funds but rightfully so, declined to give it to him. I've known Latasha long enough to have the skinny on that recruitment to trust what she said.

I’m not convinced it’s amazing. That said it’s all for leverage
It’s not bc boosters still think we just need a bunch of local players and walks and to out work everyone. The differentiator between the top tier and what NU has is NIL budget. Boosters will either get on board or it’s hard to bitch about not consistently competing for championships with NIL that is tens of millions short of GA, Miami, AL, OR, OSU etc. Just look at OSU’s roster. It is part coaching and winning which goes into it which we’re working towards but they also have more money. Look at broke dick Texas Tech. Their NIL has propelled huge pickups and talent infusion into their program with no tradition and located in an armpit of a city with meh fan support. NIL is the missing link to compete with the top schools.

True however it may be due to trying to budget with tens of millions less in NIL compared to Miami et al. He would’ve then needed to give EJ a raise to keep him too which he probably doesn’t have the funds to do with NIL.

I don't get it. If Nebraska NIL is so good why was Rhule bitching about it at his press conference?

Leverage. Keep the pressure on those funding the operation.

TBC, I don't think our NIL is top 5 or 10, but I do feel it's very close & competitive. And I also believe his NIL budget will continue to increase after each season. Rhule has a golden opportunity with the 2025 season.

So baseball "has the funds" to offer Payton Tolle $700K+ but football doesn't have the funds to pay CMB and up EJ? Come on, man. (And before anyone calls bluff on the $700K+, I've mentioned this a few times on this forum in the last 2 years before being asked to remove it. I won't remove it now).

Rhule chose not to stay in the CMB mix. Miami overpaid. Barthel didn't help either, but that's a different story.

What? Why not just raise EJ’s NIL then in order to get both instead of saying no thanks to Brown if it wasn’t because of lack of NIL funds?

Elaborate on Barthel….

Ask Matt Rhule that question. It was his decision, not 1890's.

Look at our RB room, there's your answer.

2 things will happen going forward; Rhule will need to increase his RB room budget, or find a new RB coach.

This shit needs to stop.

Nebraska football is #4 in FBS football spending*, Rhule has a top 15 salary (#4 in B1G), unlimited facility upgrades, very competitive NIL and has received just about everything he's asked for in his short 3 years in Lincoln.

Matt & Julie Rhule have set up generations of Rhules financially. It won't be money that keeps them from Pedo State. He went to high school in the area, played for them, met his wife there and is very close to their AD. If he remains at Nebraska, and is successful, I still think Tejas is his next/final destination if their job opens after truly turning NU around.

Rhule is well compensated for what he's done in Lincoln. Our program is in kuch better shape today than it was in October 2022. And because of this fact, it's more desirable than it was 3 years ago.

* IIRC, someone recently posted this. Maybe I'm not remembering it correctly. @Cornicator? I'll research it if needed.
I posted about this on RSS earlier today in response to a poster saying NU needs to step up and spend money like the blue blood that it is:

And if you look at recent trends, we're spending just as much as anybody. According to this, our football budget was fourth in the country last year. Higher than Ohio State's! $20 million more than Penn State's! The facts don't support a narrative that Nebraska is being cheap when it comes to football spending. We are absolutely spending money like a blue blood.

Here are all the FY24 FOOTBALL operating budgets

SchoolBudget
University of Alabama$113,835,360
Texas A&M University, College Station$90,797,514
University of Washington$87,566,951
University of Nebraska-Lincoln$84,059,267
The Ohio State University$78,586,384
University of Tennessee, Knoxville$75,905,015
University of Michigan$72,404,170
University of Georgia$68,931,272
Clemson University$67,787,017
University of Texas at Austin$65,770,599
Pennsylvania State University$64,463,970

Luke Fuckell is pushing for the Pedo job saying he wants to return PSU to the glory days of Sandusky…

But if Rhule does leave, I wish him as much luck as Frost had when he returned to his Alma mater.

That chart specifically doesn't include what schools are paying players.

"I’ve done newsletters that track reporting revenue and spending before, but in case this is your first one, let me remind everybody that I get this data from each school’s MFRS report that they file annually with the NCAA. This report is a standardized (well, sort of) itemized budget that every school in Division I and Division II has to file.

...the term total operating expenses includes reported spending on stuff like coaching salaries, severance payouts, team travel, recruiting, bowl trips, administrative staff, facility debt service and others. It does not include player payroll."
