TLDR: Sims has turnovers on ~6.5% of snaps at NU, HH on ~3% of snaps.

Sims
Pass efficiency rating: 99.6 (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/jeff-sims-1.html)
Record as starter: 0-2
Sims turnovers: 7 (4 INT, 3 fumbles lost)
Games played: 2
Turnovers per game: 3.5
Total snaps: 108
Turnovers per snap: 0.0648

Haarberg

Pass efficiency rating: 120.6 (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/heinrich-haarberg-1.html) -- (not updated yet for Michigan St game)
Record as starter: 5-2
Haarberg turnovers: 13 (6 INT, 7 fumbles lost)
Games played: 7
Turnovers per game: 1.86
Total snaps: ~440
Turnovers per snap: 0.0295

They do not turn it over at the same rate. Sims turns it over at nearly double the rate of Haarberg on a per game basis and over double the rate of Haarberg on a per snap basis.

You don't just get to say "they both turn it over the same amount". It's not even close, which is why Haarberg has been getting the snaps.

This is only a defense of Haarberg against Sims. Haarberg shouldn't play another snap until we've proven Chubba isn't the answer either. Fortunately for us, he is.

Turning the ball over on 3% of snaps is absolutely terrible for Haarberg. It's unacceptably bad and I think he should be on the bench until we've tried literally every other QB on the roster.
And yet, HH's turnover rate is still half that of Sims. Anyone saying they turn it over the same amount, or that Haarberg is even worse, is simply wrong.

You admitted last week you dont even watch the games bahaha no wonder you’ve been clamoring for Sims

Also where’d your Ukraine flag go??
Flying right next to the American one in the front yard

448 snaps for Haarberg

Haarberg fumbles on 2.45% of his snaps. It still amazes me he leads the country in fumbles when he didn't even play the first two games. That 2.45% has to be the worst in the country for anyone who has played a lot of snaps.

The most fumbles in a season in FBS since 2005 is 18. The second most, done twice (both by Taylor Martinez) is 16.

Jeff Sims Career

1621 snaps
27 INTs
11 FL

38 total turnovers

2.34% of snaps lead to a turnover

This is approx 20% than HH, but in fairness, Sims worst stretch in his career was the first few games of his true freshman year - roughly where HH is

for purposes of comparison. Sims had 14 turnovers in the first seven games of his true freshman year - about the same as HH (13)

It is "mind-bottling" that 21 of Sims' turnovers came in the first seven games of his true freshman plus this year.

The other 17 games in his career, a continuous stretch in the middle of that 2020-2023 sandwich, he averaged 1 turnover a game.

An argument could be made that by sticking with him, we might have settled in by now. Don’t know if it’s accurate, and the injury really makes it a moot point, but it sure would be nice if he figured out how to hold onto the ball because he’s clearly the best option from a tools perspective.
