Dirk Bringing the Pain

Ya you can tell he isn't happy about that. There is a ton that I feel we don't know about that situation.
Listening to Damon on 1620 a recurring theme is inconsistency in handling players. Frost doesn’t seem to treat them the same and he doesn’t handle similar situations consistently. That sends a confusing and frustrating message to players like Betts.

I don't know if it is Frost or if it is Lubick.

To be honest, I don’t want a HC or OC to treat all players equal.

I actually think the problem is they ARE being consistent in how they handle players.

Betts gets in trouble = less snaps or no snaps

Problem is, he isn’t a white walk on from O’Neil… he is probably our fastest player and we need him out there.

I get that. The problem is you need to beat teams like Illinois, Minnesota, and Purdue to show actual progress. It’s also not asking too much to win a game against a team like Wisconsin who is down this year. If we lose out even with the tough schedule Frost should be fired.

Yeah. Honestly if we had beat Illinois and Minnesota and lost the other games in the exact same ways we did, I don’t think anyone is calling for his job.

No inside info but it seems like people have complained about this since Frost’s first year with Mo Washington and that his inconsistent treatment / playing favorites created some culture issues.

Whoever it is, there’s no excuse for Liewer, Belt, generic walk on #3, ET al to play over Betts, Manning, etc. Every other CFB team can get play makers on the field - seems like a consistent issue for Nebraska that they cannot

Lubick has to go too. A yes-man/buddy/bank teller as OC/WR coach is a horrible idea. Frost needs to be taken out of his comfort zone and perspective from competent outsiders would do him good.

And let’s be honest Oklahoma wasn’t great with Rattler when we played them and I believe MSU is overrated. I have a feeling their season doesn’t end well. I guess lets see how the rest of the season plays out.

Yup, I agree. But at 5-3 and only one win away from being bowl eligible I think people are generally happy

The Betts situation is worrisome. Say what you will about Wandale and the circumstances around his departure, losing him and then Betts to the portal in back to back years would be a nail in the coffin for Frost.

You can't lose an Omaha kid of that talent level. It would be devastating to area recruiting and the optics would be a nightmare.

I know people have characterized Wandale as selfish with an interfering parent - and that may all be true - but to be fair it seems like he had a point about not wanting to run between the tackles. He’s putting up pretty good numbers for KY in an exclusive WR role this year.

Both Robinson transferring and Frost wanting a player to do what is best for the team can be true.

Wandale transferring is good for his WR career. Looks like it will probably turn out to be a good decision on his part.

and

Frost was correct is wanting him to play more snaps as the RB. In 2020 he was averaging ~6 carries a game. I think Frost wanted to increase that up to ~10 carries a game because he knew it would benefit the offense having that kind of speed in the backfield a few carries a game.

(Just look at our run game without him)

I’d feel so much better about two close wins to Illinois and Minnesota and two ass kickings to OU and Mich if I’m being completely honest.

I don’t disagree that he was good in the backfield, but I also think a guy who is built like WR wanting not to run up the middle as a RB is completely reasonable - he was getting his ass kicked.

agreed, thats why I said both are true

its reasonable for Wandale to not want to run the ball and its reasonable for Frost to want to utilize his best offensive weapon

probably best for everybody that he transferred instead of sticking around pouting or not giving full effort
