Breaking Dana Holgerson Joins NU Staff As Consultant - “Role Will Evolve As Season Goes On”

This makes zero sense given the fact that he left another analyst role to come here.
I think you are reading way too much into why he's here as a consultant and he's probably only here for a few days..... With your same philosophy, is TW getting shit canned with Phil Snow on the ground as well? If I'm wrong, I'll gladly eat crow......

Seems kind of late in a pivotal season to make that move.

How major of changes can he really help the o coaches make. Seems like a fart in the wind type move

From 2017-Rhule on Holgorsen's offense:

Rhule said the worry against West Virginia is its ability to disguise their offense and exploit weaknesses in the defense.

“I think they use the whole field. They’re explosive in terms of getting the ball in playmakers’ hands. They see what defense you’re in and they’ll violate that defense. They’ll give you something that looks like ‘Hey this is this route,’ and then they’ll do a double move off of it, so you have to be so disciplined in the back end,” Rhule said. “Even when you see the route and you know what it is, you’re kind of afraid to go make a play. I think the biggest thing, from studying what they’re doing, is that they’re committed to running the football. They’re going to run the football. I think it’s really well put together and really well-designed, and they have a toughness about them.”

I love Holgorsen because his Wikipedia bio says this: "He built his home in Morgantown in 2014. The home is the first luxury residence in the U.S. to be built completely of cross-laminated timber."

If I had coach buyout money I would totally do some sick architectural thing that costs twice as much as resale. OOU

Rest of the season is more than a few days

I was wrong about the length, but I doubt he'll be taking over play calling duties by the end of the season or will be named the OC for the 2025 season. If Rhule was smart, he'd fire Satt now and get it over with, but I doubt he does.

Does anyone have details on Houston's collapse in his last year? From what I remember, 2023 was a disaster, and he went about .500 overall at Houston(checks out for a Nebraska hire). I know he had success at his other stops.
UH is my second team and I wrote a thing about this back when Dana was initially being floated but the big reason for his collapse there from people inside the program is that he was very lazy and was a not so secret alcoholic. Maybe that’s gotten straightened out in the past year and I’m not doubting his football iq but there were definitely valid issues in Houston.

If he's like most consultants that I know, he'll highlight and give a few recommendations and collect his $15k and move on. I really doubt he'll be calling plays this year or next.
You know some really inexpensive consultants.
I don't think this is going to be a big change, to be honest. We're not going to change the playbook at this stage in the season. The best we can hope for is improvement in play calling and in not being so predictable with personnel and formations
I would agree that we're not going to significantly change the offense at this point, but this is a major indicator that we're going to have a new OC next season and my assumption is that this period will be a tryout for Dana. If he puts in the work and impresses Rhule with his vision then he'll get the job. That should be exciting in itself.

I'm 100% certain that Rhule is aware of this.

Yeah this is my big concern about him and why I wasn’t interested when he came up in the spring. He looked like absolute walking shit the last couple of games at UH.

Hopefully we know what we are doing, although history makes that kind of hope difficult.
