When I first got to Germany on assignment for 2 years, I met my boss who had been in Germany for 16 years at that point. He was married to a German, and played for the city's soccer team at a highly competitive level. He had a very unusual car however that I had never seen before; a 1972 Renault Alpine A110 (aka the Porsche Killer).
It was well known throughout Europe as the car that can out handle and race the Porsche 911s. The hard to swallow thing was that it was a Renault company; Alpine, that was building them ...

Back in the late 1960's my cousin Gaylord was a professor at UCLA, and his father was a well known collector of antique and unusual cars in Lincoln. Gaylord bought this little beauty in SOCAL and drove it back to show his dad ... Sunbeam Tiger. Only got to ride in this little beauty once, when I was like 13.

There is a guy here in town has one. I see him every once in a while at a Cars n Coffee I go to..

Love em!
Here's a pic i took

Maxwell Smart drove one (a Sunbeam TIger) in the opening credits. And an Opel GT too, which was my 1st car.

You don't happen to go to the Cars and Coffee over near Huntington Beach do you???? That is where my FIL went with his Porsche every Saturday morning up until about 2003 when cancer ended his life.

FYI that is a beauty for its condition alone!

I know of that one.
When i was in So Cal...I went to a few but never that one.
I'd do the West Hills one, one at The Peterson, and one at Trancas in Malibu. Leno and Jenner would go to Malibu.

That pic is from Scottsdale.

Sorry about your FIL. F Cancer !

Did your Mrs inherit the Porsche?

That fits the spoof because Sean Connery drove a Sunbeam Alpine in Dr. No.

A bit of a sore subject .....
My wife had recently purchased a Mini Cooper/Shelby supercharged version, and I had recently given my son my old 914 that was in pitiful condition. I figured she'd go for her dads. She decided against it, because it would simply be another car with limited use ability here on our property in the country.
He also had a El Camino that he had bought when he had sold his airplane (had been diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1999 and was no longer able to pass the pilots physical). The El Camino was rebuilt by someone in the SOCAL area who was well known for rebuilds, and hot rod construction; the Camino was a beast. Alas that went away as well .......
It is kind of surprising to me that this all transpired this way but .....
The FIL was a pretty interesting guy who raced MGs in the 50's at Long Beach and rode in bicycle races as well ... was a cartoonist who had his cartoons in archive at the Ohio State Cartoon Museum (did cartoons for In-Flight, Orange County Register local papers, and others), and had originally trained at a Disney studio.
He and his brother were both artistic, and his brother had studied at a well known studio in Santa Fe, NM, and owned a gallery on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.
Both were also jazz musicians ......
