Does anyone on here work in the field? Just curious what your thoughts are on it. I've been looking at side income options and someone suggested taking a certificate class and doing something in the field part time. Is that a realistic route? Is it worth it? Thoughts?

Don’t. It got over saturated during Covid with those workshops. Cyber Security is just part of my overall job, which I feel is how most of the IT field is nowadays.
I'm genuinely curious as to how it is saturated? I feel like with things like AI and everything going digital, it'd be a booming market.

I've been in Cyber Security for almost 20 years now. The field is saturated, but not so much at entry level/analyst levels although those roles have become much more competitive in the states. When I used to hire that level we'd typically recruit from technology roles, particularly network engineers. Some certifications out there for that like CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+.

It's been a while ago now but my route to cyber was after working in product roles. Led me to application security then just about every other security domain.

Like every tech field, AI is having its impact. Much more can be automated in triage but you still need a human to sort through things and deal with people and problems.

why don’t you be a moderator here sumbitch ? how’s that for a side hustle !

You’re probably much better off learning agentic AI workflows. Don’t take a class or buy a course just use YouTube videos or other free stuff. I’ve been learning n8n for the last few months already have it doing a good amount of tasks for me.

So would you say a CompTIA Sec+ cert would be worth it for a part time gig?
