Was he really above the Kohl kid on our board or did we feel like Kohl wasn't coming our way? This commit seems out of left field to me. Does it even really matter?

I'm glad we got our '23 QB, but I'm not sure how important H.S. QB recruiting is any more. With the portal you can always go out and find an older guy and most likely one with experience. Not sure you have to concentrate so much energy on HS QBs because of that.

So what do you do? If you go after the super talented "5 star" guys then you better have playing time for them or they will transfer as soon as they even think you have them below QB1 on the depth chart. These are guys that take a ton of recruiting resources. (Time, energy, visits) Are they worth it?

OTOH you can't ignore QB recruiting from HS ....or can you? Do you go after lower rated guys and see if you can get a little more patience from them as you develop them over the course of a few years knowing that you can shop the portal if they don't work out?

Another point: We also have to consider that some kids see the writing on the wall with Frost. I can see Kohl being cautious to go with Nebraska because he knows Frost's hot seat situation maybe a bit better than a dude from Massachusetts since he is from a neighboring state.

I believe that I read somewhere that Whipple had been on this kid since he was in 6th grade, so obviously he's very familiar with him.

With as poorly as our staff has been at identifying and developing high school talent I think they need to concentrate mainly on the Portal. A big advantage is the transfers won't be as likely to transfer out again because they will have to sit out a year for a 2nd Transfer. High School recruits can bolt any time and be eligible for the next season. Find a weakness with a program and find a way to work around it.
