Currently have a Sam’s membership but thinking about joining Costco too.

List all of the things that I should look at buying from Costco - both products and services!

Had CostCo, switched to Sam's because it was 10 minutes closer. They're virtually identical. Except CostCo is an absolute zoo in comparison. At least 3x as many people. PASS

Thought about doing the same thing a couple months ago so we walked through Costco….didn’t feel right. They didn’t have things I like from Sam’s. Kinda seemed shitty

Here’s how chatgpt breaks it down:

Sam's Club and Costco are both popular warehouse club retailers that offer a variety of products and services to their members. Here's a comparison of these two retail giants:

1. Membership:
- Sam's Club: Requires an annual membership fee to access their stores and services. They offer different tiers of memberships with varying benefits.
- Costco: Also requires an annual membership fee with multiple membership levels. Each level offers different perks, including access to exclusive deals and services.

2. Store Locations:
- Sam's Club: Operates numerous stores across the United States and internationally, but generally has fewer locations compared to Costco.
- Costco: Has a larger number of stores across the United States and worldwide, making it more accessible for many shoppers.

3. Product Selection:
- Sam's Club: Offers a wide range of products, including groceries, electronics, clothing, and household items. They carry their own private label brands in addition to name brands.
- Costco: Features a diverse product selection, including groceries, electronics, furniture, and more. They are known for their high-quality Kirkland Signature private label products.

4. Pricing:
- Sam's Club: Prices are competitive, and they frequently offer discounts and promotions. They also accept various forms of payment, including credit cards.
- Costco: Known for their competitive pricing and bulk packaging, which can lead to significant savings for members. They have a limited selection of accepted payment methods.

5. Services:
- Sam's Club: Provides services like optical centers, tire and battery centers, and pharmacy services. They also have an online shopping platform.
- Costco: Offers similar services, including optical and pharmacy services, as well as a travel department and photo center. They also have an online shopping platform.

6. Store Experience:
- Sam's Club: Typically has a warehouse-style layout with a focus on efficient shopping. The store design may vary by location.
- Costco: Known for its spacious, warehouse-style stores, often providing a more organized and pleasant shopping experience.

7. Customer Experience:
- Sam's Club: Known for its friendly customer service, but individual experiences may vary by location.
- Costco: Has a reputation for exceptional customer service and is often praised for its treatment of employees.

8. Exclusive Benefits:
- Sam's Club: Offers cashback rewards through their Plus membership, which can be appealing for frequent shoppers.
- Costco: Provides exclusive travel and insurance services to its members, along with a cashback reward program.

In summary, both Sam's Club and Costco have their strengths and cater to a similar customer base. Your choice between the two may come down to factors like location convenience, product preferences, membership benefits, and the overall shopping experience you prefer. It's recommended to compare membership costs and benefits before deciding which one aligns better with your needs and preferences.

Costco is a little better overall, but also worse in some ways. Like Costco needs to get it in gear with their mobile app. You can't scan & go to checkout with your phone like you can with the Sam's app, and you can't use your phone at the gas pumps. I think Sam's tends to have more name brand options overall, while Costco leans pretty heavily on their Kirkland brand.

But Costco's online shopping experience is definitely better (Sam's doesn't have free shipping on most things unless you pay extra for their Plus membership), and Costco's unlimited return policy is sweet. I just dropped a couple grand on a new leather sofa that I ordered through Costco.com, partly because that return policy also applies to furniture. Like if you decide you want to return it, they'll come pick it up.

Kirkland alcohol is just various major brands repackaged at an affordable price.
