Sign Up Now!Idk why it would be a big deal. Bringing in a guy to actually build a program for 5-8 years and then him fucking off into retirement seems fine to me.If age isn't a big deal, Whittingham is it for me.
I think about the Saban interview before the Texas game that fox played. They asked him about retirement and he said something like "I don't have anything I want to do other than this". That is to say that I think for the guys who really love it and want to do it, age is just a number and they'll keep grinding as hard as they did when they were young. What seems more likely to me with Whittingham's age is whether he would want to start over rather than showing up and deciding it's too much work, imo.Is rebuilding a program from its steaming remains an old man’s game though? I I can see an old guy thinking he’s up for it but then not really having the same desire once he gets into the actual work.
A lot of shit you would do when you were younger seems like it’s still a good idea until you actually have to do it.
How hard is it to rebuild a program with big NIL $$$ and the transfer portal? A big name like Urban would bring in top notch coaches that can recruit and coach. Transfers would be interested in playing for him. Friggin Leipold has KU turned around in his 2nd season and they might have been the only Power5 program that was a bigger dumpster fire than us. They have squat for NIL $$$, tradition, fan support.......Is rebuilding a program from its steaming remains an old man’s game though? Possibly, but I'd be of the opinion Whittingham would be more efficient in those regards. He's proven. His teams are tough, play fundamental football. RTB @God is a Husker and win at a high rate.Is rebuilding a program from its steaming remains an old man’s game though? This is a great article, thank you! I didn't know much about him. Sounds like a great guy. This part is pretty much exactly what I hoped/expected Frost would bring to NU (because it seemed like this is how he was at UCF) but apparently it was the exact opposite:Yeah, Rhule is a really savvy guy. If anyone here hasn't read about how he approached the Baylor, it's a damn good read: https://www.si.com/college/2019/10/04/baylor-bears-matt-rhule
Sold.If you like Aranda, you better like Rhule. Rhule built the podium for Aranda to stand on.
Exactly. We see it every week when we get beat with lesser talent and more quality coaching. A good coach can schematically (sp?) do better with less talent until they get their own guys. How hard is it to rebuild a program with big NIL $$$ and the transfer portal? On Offense we are just missing a TE and some O Linemen but we do have some young unproven talent on the O Line. Defense we could use better DT, Inside Linebacker and Safeties. CB play is ok and I think our OLB/Pass Rushers are solid for the most part, talent is there at least.
Coaching Matters.
Honestly, when is the last time Nebraska beat someone who was more talented than us?Exactly. We see it every week when we get beat with lesser talent and more quality coaching. A good coach can schematically (sp?) do better with less talent until they get their own guys.

My thoughts exactly. It was a good read, but isn't this the same thing we just criticize Frost for? Hiring coaches with no experience and bringing his previous staff with him. Maybe I read that wrong in the article. This is a great article, thank you! I didn't know much about him. Sounds like a great guy. This part is pretty much exactly what I hoped/expected Frost would bring to NU (because it seemed like this is how he was at UCF) but apparently it was the exact opposite:
What makes Rhule successful is his relationship-building tactics and motivational methods, staff members say. He demands that his assistants form tight bonds with the players. He’s so committed to it that he had Baylor’s new players lounge built directly across the hall from the staff’s offices. Through its glass walls, Rhule can been seen at times playing ping-pong with his players. “One thing about coach, he wants you to be a part of their lives academically and socially,” says McGuire. “If he knows something before you know something about one of your kids, he feels like you’re not putting enough time in to get to know the guys.”
When HCMR beat 10th ranked Michigan State at home. I believe that was in 2015.Honestly, when is the last time Nebraska beat someone who was more talented than us?
