Changes on Defense?

This one is kind of interesting to me because Frost stole the 8am practice thing from Chip Kelly at Oregon. And it's funny to see Frost stick to that now that he's many yrs removed from working with Chip. It's ironic bc the big dipper was often late to those 8am practices (allegedly), setting a wonderful example to his team.

The 8am practices clearly aren't working for us. And they also cause a lot of problems with the players' class schedules bc they can't attend any morning classes. My guess is 75% of CFB programs hold practice in the afternoon for that reason. IDK it's just funny that Frost stuck to this for so long when (a) they clearly weren't working and (b) MF was hungover every day and missed practice times anyway.

Frost is such a gigantic moron. I can't wait to see some of the other simple things that Mickey can immediately fix.
I have a hard time believing he was late to practice...and even harder time believing he was late often.

I know when they hired Frost they made some pretty big sacrifices with the schedules to get his morning practices to work. Already into the semester, I don't know how you could just up and change that.

You're the insider, I'm not! So I'll go with your knowledge over mine.

But I've read at least 5-6 accounts saying Frost was often late to practices and team meetings. The insider 'Curious Geovanny' was just saying yesterday saying Frost was sometimes late to practice. There was the account on TPB that said Frost missed a team meeting in Dublin. Severe now saying that Frost was late to practices. I've heard enough smoke out there to believe PLUS I know Frost is super lazy and frequently hungover. Frankly I'd be surprised if he was making daily 8am practices on time.

Hardly an insider. If that is true, that's just unbelievable. I just can't fathom being late like that. That's why I said it just can't be true, because it's so outlandish and ridiculous...but if it is...which it's looking more and more like it could be...yikes...no wonder we sucked so bad.

For every practice I was at during the spring and fall Frost was NEVER late once, and I'm guessing that's 30+ practices/scrimmages. He might have strolled in during the 1st or 2nd segments, but before that segments it was specialty warmups, team warmup, and position drills vs bags or air.

Not once was he later than segment 2, which is really when practice "begins" for everyone.

Team meetings, recruiting visits, etc., I can't say.

Was this before or after Turd replaced Moos? Or both?

So was the entire team supposed to do segment 1?

Seems if the entire team is out there, even against air and bags, that would be the start of the practice.

I'm also confused by the bolded, the first one seems to be contradicted by the second and 3rd.

Let me clarify something slightly.

Practice time 8-10

Specialists get there before this to begin kicking and punting.

7:45 Segment 1 on clock (listed as zero on practice schedule). This varies by day, but lets say today was just QBs and WRs
7:50 Segment 2 on clock (walk thru). Varies by day, but most players are out at this time.
7:55 Segment 3 on clock (warmups). Almost entire team is out.

Frost might not have been there for those 3 pre-practice segments, sometimes he was. Generally players trickle in during this time.

8am pretty much everyone there including Frost, might be a player or two still getting medical treatment or wrapped.
Segment 1 on clock, typically positions vs air or bags, maybe some special teams stuff. All lead by position coaches and coordinators.
Segment 2 on clock typically similar to segment 1. All lead by position coaches and coordinators.

If Frost was a part of those drills or team stuff, he'd be out there. If he wasn't needed, he would be there, but might be talking to scouts, recruits, visiting coaches, boosters, etc.

Prior to this fall/spring, he was always out when QBs were out.

I am pretty dubious of this late to practice allegation. Maybe it’s hypothetically possible with an absentee Moos as AD that this occurred, but wouldn’t Turd have ended it last year? Also, wouldn’t some players or other assistant coaches just up and leave? Like if I am Fisher and my head coach can’t bother to show up to practice on time, especially when we’re losing, I am taking one of the many offers that came my way

Idk why but I always thought they practiced at like 5 in the morning.
8am is VERY early for CFB standards. Most programs go 2-3pm start times to allow their kids to attend classes in the morning. 8am causes a big logistical issue with a lot of other things.

I live in PNW and my company crossed over w U of Oregon at the time Chip Kelly took over for Mike Bellotti. When Chip was hired he changed practice time from 3pm to 8am and it was a huge deal out here. But Chip was obsessed with the 8am time. That's where Frost got it from. The reason you remember it is bc NU had to do massive logistical shifts to allow the 8am's to work and allow the kids to attend classes.

The hysterically funny thing is A, Frost only does the 8am thing because he was trying to copy Chip and B, sounds like he was the last to roll into practice every day anyway. It's all hilarious.

My $.02.... I just took it as Frost wasn't that present around the football offices or practice field. I don't think he was "late" in the sense of 'it's 10am and there's no coach!'

I just took it as Frost was never 'the first guy there' and maybe he actually did come in a few minutes late a few times. The HC's presence is important in times outside of practice and games. Can be reassuring, his temperament sets the tone for the program. Sounds like Frost was completely absent in these times TBH.

FWIW I've done extended contract work with 5 P5 universities and spent a lot of time around athletic offices. You can tell the well run programs from the shit shows literally just from running into the HC at random times of the day in the athletic offices. People think I'm joking about this but I assure you I am not. Most of these are run by talented CEO HCs which means seeing the amateur Frost playing call of duty in the football offices must have been quite jarring. Complete amateur hour. Even for an assistant the shit Frost did was amateur.
