Chad Morris

1. I don’t think beggars can be choosers here.
2. He’s only going to be here for 1 season so it probably doesn’t matter all that much
It's just as underwhelming as we all suspected I guess

Lol are we already trying to spin this into a positive? He failed at SMU and Arkansas and then put up very average offensive numbers at Aubrun and then no one wanted him so he went to coach high school. For fucks sake. This is Nebraska football baby. We're back
He's a decent coordinator. If it's him, I think we are making the most of a bad situation. I don't think it changes the trajectory of a Frost led program.

Failed as an HC...Big difference between HC & OC.

I mean to be fair I said he was a shit show as a HC. Don't know how that is a spin.

His offenses as an OC were pretty good though

My question would be, if he is a home run coordinator hire, why is he coaching high school ball? Is this like where we spin all low rated recruits as diamonds in the rough, or is there a legitimate reason he is not currently coaching in college?

I get that but it was still his offense they were running when he was a head coach. You're either successful or you're not. I'll try to spin this as a positive as long as we get Sean Snyder and Mickey Joseph.

Do you mean how right after he left they made it to the playoff?
Or how right after he left is when all that talent they accumulated finally matured and made it. I'm not saying he's a world beater but he not dog shit either. I don't care what he did as a HC

Fair point. I have no idea why he isn't an OC somewhere. Failed twice as an HC, maybe wanted to get away from the college game for a bit. No idea.

I don't know enough about those teams, but the offense he ran at Clemson was not the same offense he ran at Arkansas. The HC has a lot more shit to worry about as compared to the OC. He's been a successful OC...HC...not so much. I'd be okay with taking a chance on him.

Or how they went 6-7 before he arrived and then went 42-11 while he was there and he recruited one of the better qbs of the past decade (Watson)? Morris has flaws, but he's also been pretty successful as an OC. Him getting fired at Auburn was more of a consequence of Malzhan than Morris. He also took SMU from 1-11 to 7-5 in 3 years and recruited the Dallas area well.

I get that his past isn't perfect, but you're simply pointing out all his failures and not giving him any credit for his successes, it seems.

I mean I am pretty sure he is still making good money from Arkansas and Auburn

We are fucked no matter who we hire. Frost is done after 2022. It just doesn’t matter.

Allen, TX football may be more a more impressive gig than DONU at this point. I'd take him yesterday for a one year prove it period.

He failed at Arkansas- he didn't fail at SMU. I think Dykes was better at SMU than Morris, but Morris was decent. Better than Bennett and Jones, imo.

2013 (June Jones) 5-7
2014 (June Jones) 1-11
2015 (Chad Morris) 2-10
2016 (Chad Morris) 5-7
2017 (Chad Morris) 7-5

Mixed feelings on Chad Morris. I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a HR if that's the OC hire. Long-time friend of Malzahn and lot of cross-pollination there. Ton of connections in Texas from coaching there for years, so that's a big positive. Basically made Clemson's offense what it is now. Clemson was 15–12 (w/ a 6-7 record immediately before he arrived). Did fine at SMU. Bombed at Arkansas. I think that had more to do with being a bad HC than a bad coordinator, but who the hell knows. Hired to help save Malzahn's job in 2020. They were pretty good on offense. Tore Bo's LSU D apart. Obviously didn't save Malzahn though, but don't know that he could have.

He had a two year guaranteed deal at Auburn that wasn’t tied to Malzahn’s contract like assistants typically are. So he making 7 figures this year to sit and coach high school football. Add to it the money Arkansas is still paying him and I don’t think he was under much pressure to find a new lucrative job that forced him to not be able to watch his son play college football.
