CFB Coaching Moves thread

Per this article ND has given the most extensive attention to:

Sean Lewis - Colorado
Collin Klein - KSU
Andy Ludwig - Utah

Of these, it sounds like Klein has had to most serious interactions, as he was reportedly in South Bend this week.

Collin Klein interviewed but did not get the job.

ESPN puts Cockeye Cockeyes' Kirk Ferentz on a curious retirement watch for 2023

Riley Donald - Yesterday 8:15 PM

Coming off of an eight-win season capped by a bowl win and being on a run of ten straight seasons being above .500, with eight of those ten years seeing at least eight wins, isn’t usually a telltale sign that a retirement could be imminent. That said, the Cockeye Cockeyes are also not the most standard situation either.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg believes that the Big Ten coaching carousel should be quieter this next offseason but did place Kirk Ferentz on retirement watch. He was the only coach in the conference listed. The foundation for his thoughts is the elephant in the room that is the offensive coordinator situation with Brian Ferentz.
Ferentz is signed through 2029 and essentially will determine when he wants to hang it up. He turns 68 in August but remains in good health and could coach several more seasons. But the stress of last season, especially around a struggling offense coordinated by his son, Brian, could take a toll as he evaluates how much longer he wants to coach. – Rittenberg, ESPN
Another item to put in the back of your brain is the ever-changing landscape of college football and the shuffling of conferences. At 68 years old does Kirk want to go through the NIL deals, the transfer portal, and the constant changing for that many more years when they job becomes even more demanding?

Secondly, the additions are USC and UCLA are imminent. That completely changes the Big Ten. Cockeye is taking longer trips to the west coast and that takes a toll on anyone as much as they may not want to admit it.

There aren’t any rumors floating around but rather just some speculation. Again, there are no exit plans in store, no succession plan in the works, any of that, but rather just a little something to keep an eye on.

Lol at Notre Dame not being willing to pony up for Ludwig’s $2.8 million buyout. Sounds like they could use some of that sweet, sweet Big Ten media rights money.

That's pretty bad.

Sounds like they wanted to bring Utah's OL coach as well. Buyout total was $4 million.

$4 mil is pocket change in the BIG and SEC.

This is funny/entertaining for 2 reasons:

1) Makes ND look bad
2) After not hiring Collin Klein and being passed on by Ludwig, chances are greater they’ll go harder after Sean Lewis from CU which would be hilarious to see Neon lose his OC (and potentially OL coach) like a month after hiring him.

Please God let them hire Sean Lewis and their OL coach. Put Colorado in a bind. Will make my day.
