Breaking the ice

Yeah, you really can't draw too many conclusions about the offense given the format. Wouldn't have been surprised at all if Omar houses that slant, couple runs from Ervin, Scott, and Martinez that would've been long gainers, ect. Shit, we attempted a throwback fatman trick play (that Damian Jackson did a good job of sniffing out), so I'm not rushing to make many conclusions there. But shit like that rip from Martinez to Martin on that ~15 yard out route w/ that wind was encouraging. That's not an easy throw. Seems like pretty have their minds made about Martinez and yesterday just reinforced wherever you were.

Literally the only things I took from yesterday were that I think Nixon is gonna get on the field sooner rather than later and Gabe Ervin is faster than I thought he was.

And Vokolek is slow as molasses. He will not be a receiving threat.

According to Carriker, Yant could be our starting RB in the fall.

Regardless of who starts we have quite the RB room right now. Stepp, Johnson, Thompkins, Scott, Morrison, Ervin, and now Yant. And they're all sophomore or freshman year. Although I'm guessing Johnson will transfer at some point.

Is Betts in the doghouse? Didn't see him at all in the first half.

Question is, who can stay healthy?

Not in the Doghouse, but I fully put his regression or lack of progress the coaching staff. Something that I found after talking to someone knowledgeable about Betts is he doesn't learn or pick up well from traditional coaching methods. He needs more individualized coaching strategy, hence Lubick's micromanaging him in the fall. It wasn't as much as micromanaging, as it was the attempt to individualize his coaching.

From the post spring practice/pre-spring game EPP.....
- There was a lot less micro managing of Betts by Lubick, but it showed, he was often confused of where to line up or what route to run or what the play was. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at a co #2 or #3 on depth chart.

- With that, I paid close attention to route depths on QB/WR drills, there were 2 guys consistently at 2-4+ yards deeper than what the route was supposed to be. Example, 12 to 13 yard out was run at 16 yards or 17 yards and ball would be at their feet. Miss timed and short throws. Obviously from an outsider you'd blame the QB, however, this issue is strictly on the WR. Same thing with routes over the middle. I was seeing posts at 12 yards, but these two in particular at 15 or 16 yards.
