Huskers.com

The No. 20 Nebraska softball team drew a sellout crowd of 3,021 and downed the Maryland Terrapins, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon at Bowlin Stadium. With the win, NU claimed the series over UMD, its sixth conference series win of the year.

The crowd of 3,021 was a new program attendance record, besting the mark of 2,699 that was set earlier this season against Indiana. It was also the first sellout in Bowlin Stadium history. The Big Red also reached 400 runs on the season, which ties the school record set in 2015.

Jordyn Bahl notched a double in the fifth inning to put her at 36 extra-base hits on the season, which is a new school record. Ava Kuszak added two RBIs and a triple, while Abbie Squier had two hits – a triple and a double. Samantha Bland, Olivia DiNardo and Hannah Camenzind each had two hits on the day.

Kylee Magee (7-4) grabbed the win in the circle after tossing 4.0 scoreless innings with only two hits. She also logged three strikeouts. H. Camenzind pitched the first 3.0 innings and allowed two runs, neither of them earned. Keira Bucher (2-7) took the loss for the Terrapins.

Nebraska improved to 37-12 on the season with a 16-5 mark in conference competition, while Maryland fell to 18-30 (3-18 Big Ten).

Maryland struck first with a two-run top of the first after taking advantage of a Husker error.

NU got on the board in the bottom of the first. Bland singled then stole second, and crossed the plate on a DiNardo bloop single.

In the bottom of the fourth, Squier walked and advanced to second on a Bella Bacon sacrifice bunt. She went to third on a fielding error and scored on another Terrapin error, which put L. Camenzind at first. Bahl walked and L. Camenzind went to second before a Bland single scored L. Camenzind. Bahl and Bland both crossed the plate on a Kuszak triple. NU led 5-2 after the inning.

Squier tripled in the bottom of the fifth and scored on a Ava Bredwell single. Bredwell then stole second and scored on a Bahl double to make the lead 7-2.

Kuszak kicked off the bottom of the sixth by reaching on an error, then went to third on a H. Camenzind single. Squier doubled to score Kuszak and send H. Camenzind to third, and H. Camenzind scored on a Bacon sacrifice fly to lock up the 9-2 win.
