August Recruiting Thread

Dayton Raiola update:

Tim V. from Inside Nebaska had one of the Rivals national guys on his podcast (linked).

As you probably know, Dayton has yet to start a varsity game and it is not yet guarenteed that he will be this starter this fall as a junior at Buford. He is battling a senior who transfered in. The guy on the podcast said the transfer is more of a running quarterback. But the good news is that in Buford's preseason scrimmage, Raiola was the first QB out there with the No. 1 offense.

In another section of the podcast, he said that NU is sitting pretty decent with another Class of '26 QB in Michael Clayton. The three Florida schools already have QB commits for the '26 cycle, so that helps our cause.

I’m so intrigued to see how this situation plays out.

Me, too. It seems like the moment we push for a committment from Dayton we will get it. But of course we don't want to do that without seeing him actually play in a high school game. We know he has a rocket arm, but there's so much more about playing QB he has yet to prove.

Meanwhile, we have other very good options interested. If one of them wants N, we probably can't play wait-and-see with Dayton. Maybe Dayton turns out to be a home run, Dylan II. How long before that shows itself? What if we take another QB and Dayton still wants N? Do we take two QBs? Do we cut the other guy loose? Do we tell Dayton, sorry, spot filled?

The first step is he has to win the starting job at Buford. No way we can wait around for him to be a senior to see what he can do.

Intriguing chess match going on. It will be very interesting to see how it plays out.

I'm gonna get ahead of the curve & be a little concerned that Dayton will be so good he'll come in & beat out Dylan for the starting spot in the 2026 season, and Dylan will transfer out.

Clayton wanted to go to Miami but another 4Star committed first. He's already visited Nebraska back in June. Looks like he is on the outside looking in on his original favorites so that should help our chances of landing him.

Those are his high school colors, are they not?
