I have to agree...over the last couple of years, my energy has waivered a bit. An overall sense of apathy has set in. It isn't about the results (although they do get me spun up from time to time) either, really just don't feel a sense of investment in the game/team as much. I've given up my season tickets, tailgating spot, and have really pulled back on anything donation related to the university. I was donating to 1890, but since the switch, haven't changed my dollar over the UNL. Just kind of turned off by it all. What’s wild to me is college football as a whole has tried to make their product essentially something that is never not in the news anymore with all the lack of rules and scheduling, yet at this point in time I almost do not care or take serious what happens with our own program given how little it makes sense to invest anything due to possibly turnover on any given day
I believe players should recognize revenue benefit, but at this point it has just spun completely out of control. No boundaries, no real rules, nothing to guide the game other than a wild wild west approach. Greed and immediate result expectations is all I really see.
It's time for some real rules and guidelines. Something closer to the NFL if you will, than where we are now. I've always been a fan of the NFL (Go Eagles!), but have always appreciated the college game much more. If I'm honest, the current state of college football has me more interested in the NFL now.
Perhaps that will change with the advent of new rules and enforcement in the college game, but I'm not holding my breath.
