Are you going to watch the new Game of Thrones show?

Prediction:

House of the Dragon is going to be a smash hit setting up a further HotD franchise that explores other Targaryen time periods such as The Doom of Valyria, The various Blackfyre rebellions possibly by way of The Hedge Knight (Dunk and Egg tales) and Aegon's Conquest.

The Rings of Power will be popular at first and then fade into an afterthought.

Why?

House of the Dragon is based on original content and is actively advised by the series author who I'm sure will get an executive producer credit.

The Rings of Power are basically Amazon doing fan fiction and have most likely pissed off the Tolkien family.

I have other thoughts as well but this is the main set of reasoning.

I didn't make it through the 2nd season. Barely made it through the first and the first 5-10 episodes were really good.
Yea it wasn't for everybody, but it followed the same kind of path as GOT a really popular show that people were really disappointed in the ending after all those years of watching.

If you like to read check out the books first. Then circle back to the series and enjoy knowing that they adapted it about as well as could be expected, ran out of source material and then tried their best
Tried their best is very generous, once they ran out of source it seems like the mailed it in, I am hoping with more source direction they can actually make it a good show through and through, but GoT lost a lot points on the all time greats because of that last season alone.

The last one ended horribly but this one looks promising. Daemon Targaryen looks cool as fuck.

What was encouraging was how willing HBO was to leave the show in the hands of Weis and Benioff. That indicates willingness to let creative make the decisions on the show and often times corporate asking for changes appears to be the downfall of a lot. E.g., Justice League sucked balls but the Snyder cut was pretty good.

The problem they ran into is that they just ran out of steam. They always intended to have source material to go off of. Yet GRRM failed them on that. So they had bullet points to get them through seasons of content and they choose to abruptly end it.

I hope that going into this series HBO has applied a great creative team that won’t rely on a massive amount of narrative to pick and choose from, but rather create that narrative on their own. The world building is awesome. The political intrigue is awesome. The fantasy is awesome. Seems like they nailed the cast. I have high expectations and really want more stories in this world.

Just 4 more days and we get to watch House of Dragons everyone
