When can we all agree Frost is just a mediocre-bad coach?

Almost every Big 10 coach has had success in their first couple years except for Frost. Indiana, Minnesota, Purdue, Mich St, Maryland…..we should be better than these teams but we’re going on year 5 and hoping it was all the OL coach and QB coaches faults, not the guy in charge.
At least it’s an original take.

Not saying I disagree.

Just not a natural leader and would be better off not being in front of the media. Even today he says how he has been frustrated with the style of play of the Offensive Line for the last 4 seasons. He's the gawd dammed head coach so make changes. Bashes on Austin after he has left. Also makes positive comments about QB Thompson mentioning he has no Tunnel Vision and playing fast, which are obvious shots at Martinez. Scott needs to be above that petty shit if he wants to be a true respected leader. Leaders should always take the blame for problems and give praise to those below them for success.

You hire position coaches to coach so I’m guessing he gave Austin that opportunity. As far as the shots at Adrian….is he not supposed to make positive comments about his current players? Those are common things a coach says about his players. Unfortunately when your last qb had those problems you’re going to read them as shots at the guy that sucked.

Marvin Sanders when he wasn't a problem off the field was a hell of a DB coach
All of Pelini’s defensive backs coaches were solid. Raymond, Joseph, and Warren have pretty good jobs today. Most of his defensive staff for the most part have done pretty well including everyone’s favorite whipping boy Els. I still think Pelini’s biggest mistake was not making Marrow a full time coach when he was Bo’s best recruiter as a GA. Pelini had guys who could coach. He didn’t prioritize recruiting enough and wasn’t good at cutting dead weight.

We have had other insiders state they they have heard otherwise. I was seeing of anyone knew and didn't have to Guess, cuz that's all I can do. You can defend Frost's comments all you want but I can tell you that is not how higher level Management is trained. Even if Scott just would have taken a Management 101 Class he would know that. When we consulted with struggling businesses or new Business Owners we stressed this to all CEOs/Managers/Owners.

A leader can't be defensive, petty, finger pointing.... and Frost does way too much of that. It is not a good look and I cringe when I hear so many of his Press Conferences. Maybe it's just because I've been trained in this plus trained others. I'd love to work with him and even better bring in one Leadership Trainer I learned from who was amazing to watch work with Corporate Managers. Taught us so much and truly knew how to build and motivate a team plus loyalty was through the roof. He always stressed to leaders that you never blame anyone for failures, except for yourself. Praise the employees when things go right, give them all of the credit. Leaders take all of the blame, always.

I agree. Bo did have a lot of assistant coaches that aged well.

I think you are on the right track with biggest mistake. I think the thing that ultimately was roster construction/management kept him from taking that next step. Not maxing out scholarships, not recruiting at a high enough level, etc....

Would be curious what would happen if he maxed out scholarships and recruited a notch better....

Too bad his actions didn't give him any good will to get more resources in recruiting.

I won’t disagree with your statement about leaders and how it may likely pertain to frost. I’m just saying he gave Austin a job to do and maybe he tried what you said but Austin didn’t respond. Who knows.

I haven’t watched the videos so maybe there’s some attitude with his comments but I’ve always thought Frost is a bit oblivious to how things will get interpreted/skewed, being too honest & open when he should just lean into the coach speak.

I can see him comparing the two without the intention of backhanding AM but that said AM was slow & did have tunnel vision. If Thompson is worse than AM, I’ll bang a 300 pound whale & convince her to let me video it POV as proof for the underground.

So how much truth is there to the difference between Raiola and Austin is the scheme? It's getting pounded pretty hard that Raiola teaches more firing off the ball driving blocks, while Austin taught more finesse blocking. I know it's been said on Zatechka's podcast that they were taught to essentially block like they were "shielding" defenders instead of trying to forcefully move defenders. Any reality to that?
Zatechka panders to run the ball guy.

What we were trying to run was some really bad IZ last year. We put an emphasis on climbing and not carrying double teams it didn't look good.

From what I've been told is Raiola wants to do more man blocking. Which makes sense given he is from the Wisconsin tree.

Whenever we looked good running the ball last year we were usually pulling or inserting an extra blocker.

I was told....

Frost let assistants have a lot of rope on who played. He obviously has veto power, but let his assistants decide.

Nouili playing only happened when Frost helped with the OL after Michigan state.
Thanks, that was what I was looking for. So many Mind Bottling personnel choices at so many offensive positions I had no idea how to read it.

I think his intentions there were to help build confidence in the guys.

I doubt the OL is looking better without 2 of the top 3 guys on the unit that was already shaky. Frost can't get up there and say they look like shit.

It would be tough to convey improvement without our mature fan base thinking he was bus rolling Austin

Ya know I'm no expert or anything but I would say that if we could look anything like Wisconsin's run game then I can get behind that.

“Obviously Improved Offensive Line Play”....Comments like this really bottle the mind, don't they?

If Frost wasn't forced to make staff changes is he still saying this? IMO, and I know it won't happen, but I think it's best if everyone just waits until the pads are on and they face a real opponent.

It's hard for me to consume this drivel.

I don't think that was an obvious shot at Martinez. Frost can't help how some people are going to interpret what he says.

Coaches really are in a no win situation. If you answer candidly there are a million interpretations in a fish bowl environment. If you use coach speak you are criticized for not being more candid.

What is hard to understand is that Austin was getting title add-ons and more money… was that all from his recruiting? IDK, it just seems like the staff evals prior to the end of last year we’re not being based off the on-field performance in some cases.

It was mentioned by many that there was tension between Austin and Frost, so much that Austin was rumored to be leaving after Season 3. And supposedly Frost talked him into coming back. These are some of the things that confuse me and really make me question his overall CEO/Leadership abilities.

Exactly, why are you giving someone title promotions and more money if you don’t like their vision and coaching for the o-line?
That doesn’t add up..
