If you have 5 offensive tackles do you have 2? I kid...sort of.
The good news is, if that is true. Thinking of off season personnel moves because if you truly have OTs that can play you do not let them out of your building, you pay to keep them. You only have to pay 2 of those guys. You may lose 1 to the portal but the other 2 are going to be done.
My point being that Nebraska won't have to pay up to try and keep all of them after the season, which is probably a nice problem to have...if they truly can all play.

2 of the 5 are seniors. Pritchett and Knaak are juniors.

Yeah that's my point. At the end of the season at least they don't have to worry about retaining the 2 seniors. If they have 5 tackles that can truly play the portal tampering in Lincoln Nebraska would be crazy. Now with 3 guys that will have eligibility left..it may still be crazy but easier to pay 2 or 3 than it 4 or 5 guys for 2 positions.

Quarterback Dylan Raiola
***Dylan Raiola said Thursday night would be a “different mission” compared to his previous visits to Arrowhead Stadium. He said he talked with Patrick Mahomes about what type of cleats he needed to wear, and Mahomes told him the turf was in “perfect condition.”Oh no. He brought up Mahomes.

Nebraska Monday nuggets: Holgorsen, Butler talk Cincinnati
Nebraska’s season opener in Kansas City is just days away, and the Huskers are putting the finishing touches on their game plan for Cincinnati this week.
Offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen, defensive coordinator John Butler, and several NU players gave the latest following Monday’s practice. Here’s a recap of what they had to say…
Nebraska offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen
***Holgorsen said he didn’t have many “jitters” leading up to Thursday’s opener because he’s “been there, done that.” However, “the players should be excited about” and what he called “a great camp” that “covered every situation known to man.”“Our guys are ready for a game.”
***Holgorsen said he was most pleased with how the players treated “every day being important” throughout camp. They stayed healthy and “logged a whole lotta reps,” which allowed them to cover nearly every game situation possible.
However, “until you get in that live situation, you don’t really know.”
***Holgorsen said he’s had “some battles” against Cincinnati going back to his days at West Virginia. “They’ve always had good players, man… They’re going to be a quality team.”
***Holgorsen said UC defensive tackle Dontay Corleone “retired our center” a few years ago while “three-and-outing us on our first drive, by himself” against WVU. He said Nebraska would see guys like Corleone every week in Big Ten play, and NU’s interior linemen were excited for the challenge.
Tackle battles continue, and Holgorsen’s game day role
***Holgorsen said the competitions at left and right tackle were still ongoing. “There’s legitimately five bodies that just keep rotating.” He said he trusts OL coach Donovan Raiola to help figure that out leading into the opener, as a tackle rotation this large is a new experience for him.“I trust Coach Raiola to have a feel that he knows what he’s looking at.”
***Holgorsen said the three-way tie at left tackle was a reflection of guys maximizing their opportunities and also what each guy’s last reps have looked like each day. It’s looked different every day.
When asked if Nebraska might rotate those tackles during games, Holgorsen quipped: “That’s kind of what ‘OR’ means.”
***Holgorsen said he knew what he was getting from his starting WRs and RB Emmett Johnson, but he was excited to see how the depth at both spots responded on Thursday night. Holgorsen said Dane Key and Nyziah Hunter have been “exactly what we hoped we were getting” this offseason. He said Hunter had really come on toward the end of camp.
***Holgorsen said it’s “a lot different” calling plays now compared to where he was last season. “I don’t get tripped up as much” on terminology because “it’s our offense now. I know it inside and out.”
Holgorsen confirmed that he would continue to call plays from the sideline this year.
Defensive coordinator John Butler
***Butler said Cincinnati QB Brendan Sorsby was “very athletic, very strong as a runner, very competitive.” He noted that he only saw Sorsby slide twice on film, so they know he’s “going to fight for every yard” and will “deliver the blow instead of take hits.”***Butler said Nebraska’s staff watched “a significant amount” of Week 0 games this weekend. Beyond turnovers, what stood out to him the most was the amount of poor tackling. That will be a message to his defense all week. “You want to know how well we’re playing on defense? It will come down to how well we’re tackling their players.”
***Butler on the expected Nebraska-heavy crowd in KC: “Hopefully everybody shows up and is cheering their ass off for us.”
***Butler said one of his strengths as a coach was seeing things before most others, and coaching with passion and energy. However, now that he’s calling plays, he said he’d have to keep his emotions in check and make sure calls are made quickly and efficiently.
***Butler said the defensive helmet communication would be the top ILB on the field, which will rotate throughout games. “It’s a great tool when used properly,” but there was a fine line between not talking to players too much between plays and overloading them.
Butler on Blackshirts, cornerback rotation
***Butler said Cincinnati tight end Joe Royer was “a weapon” in their offense both as a run blocker and a receiver. He said Royer and Sorsby “clearly” had a connection.***Butler said Nebraska would hand out Blackshirts “sometime this week,” but he’ll let head coach Matt Rhule handle that. He said there would be 11 Blackshirts, “maybe a 12th guy” if they were a starter in specific packages.
***Butler said Cincinnati improved its speed at wide receiver through the transfer portal. “We feel like they’re going to test us on that pretty early.”
***Butler said Nebraska had three cornerback starters: Ceyair Wright, Andrew Marshall, and Donovan Jones. All three will play “considerable” snaps and will handle the bulk of the workload in games.
***Butler said he wants Nebraska’s defensive line to “get off the ball and create a new line of scrimmage… We want them living in the other team’s backfield.” He said the d-line needed to establish a level of physicality for the entire defense.
Butler said seeing how the defensive line responds was something he was most excited about for Thursday.
Quarterback Dylan Raiola

He understands the history of wearing “a ‘C’ on my jersey,” and he’s “very humble” to have that responsibility.
***Raiola wore glasses during his post-practice interview on Monday. He clarified that they were strictly for “fashion,” though he made sure to add, “Happy first day of school, everybody.”
***Raiola said the “oath” Nebraska’s captains signed was about “committing to the football team and everything Coach Rhule stands on… It was like we were getting elected into office.”
***Raiola said Nebraska’s defense was “ready to hit a quarterback” in a live game. On offense, he’s excited to put together a real drive and play out “all the situations we’ve been training for” all offseason.
***Raiola said there was a different “comfort level” entering this game week with Holgorsen compared to last season. He added that his overall understanding of the offense and playing at this level made this week a different feeling.
Offensive lineman Henry Lutovsky
***Henry Lutovsky said being named a team captain was “definitely the highest honor I’ve ever been awarded.” He said Rhule wanted full-time captains to give his players a chance to identify their top leaders.***Lutovsky said Rhule made the captains sign a “sworn oath” about the responsibilities of that role. Overall, it was mostly about keeping the team first and doing everything possible to help their teammates succeed.
***Lutovsky said Corleone was “a solid player” whom Nebraska’s offensive line had been preparing to face for a while.
***Lutovsky said the tackle competition “just breeds improvement for everybody involved.” He said he can’t tell any drop-off in play whenever those guys sub in and out during practice.
“I can barely tell when one guy is on the field or the other.”
Wide receiver Dane Key
***Key said earning team captain honors stemmed from how he embraced being a leader on the team and showed the respect he’d gained from his teammates since joining the program.***Key said studying Cincinnati’s secondary was tough because of all the portal additions they made this offseason. However, he credited Nebraska’s coaches for gathering film and giving the Husker wideouts as much information as possible to study.
***Key said Raiola was “one of the smartest quarterbacks I’ve played with.” He said Raiola was always talking with his receivers before and after every play to build their on-field chemistry.
***Key said Holgorsen told him, “If you don’t want to come and be that guy, don’t come here.” Key said he has to live up to that standard every day, which constantly pushes him to improve.
Defensive end Williams Nwaneri
***Williams Nwaneri said he’s been to Arrowhead Stadium around eight times. That being the Kansas City native’s first game as a Husker was “kind of like a story out of a book… It’s going to be fun.”***Nwaneri said he’d gained a lot of confidence in himself this offseason. He said Rhule told him to just “come in and play my game,” which has helped him not “put too much pressure on myself” like he did at Missouri.
“At the end of the day, it’s just ball.”
***Nwaneri said the biggest difference between Nebraska and Missouri was “the attention to detail that we pay to our day-to-day.” He said Rhule’s system gets “us ready for the next level.”
***Nwaneri said NU assistant Jamar Mozee, his former high school coach, was “like a father to me.” He said Mozee was a significant factor in his transfer to Nebraska.
***Nwaneri credited Dasan McCullough for taking him under his wing and showing him the ropes.
***Nwaneri said DL coach Terry Bradden’s “energy” stood out as much as anything. “I trust him and everything that he’s telling me, and he trusts me.”
Defensive back Marques Buford
***Marques Buford praised Butler’s coaching style and energy, saying he couldn’t wait to take the field with him running the defense in a game for the first time.“I feel like everyone respects him and wants him to lead us.”
***Buford said he was “extremely confident” in Nebraska’s defensive line. He said they “worked their tails off” all offseason and had an “amazing” position coach in Bradden. “Those guys, they come to work every day… They’re all dogs, and I’m excited to play behind them this year.”
***Buford said he watched everything from Kansas State-Cockeye State in Ireland to FCS games this weekend. He looked at how those games played out and saw how all of his coaches’ messages applied.
***Buford said the feeling around this year’s team was “night and day” compared to the 2022 squad that opened in Ireland.
***Buford said the key to handling Sorsby’s mobility was all three levels of the defense working together. He’s excited to face a dual-threat QB like Sorsby right out of the gate.
Defensive back Ceyair Wright
***Wright said being named a team captain “means a lot. I’m very, very appreciative, very honored” to receive an honor that felt like “a culmination of everything we’ve been talking about all offseason.”Wright said he’s “gained a lot, learned a lot,” and “developed myself as a person” since arriving at Nebraska.
***Wright said he was “very confident” in NU’s ability to play man coverage. That’s been a heavy focus among the defensive backs all offseason, “and I think that has really paid off.”
***Wright said he’d seen “great things” from Donovan Jones, especially how “receptive” he’s been to coaching and teaching.
***On having three captains in the secondary, Wright said, “It just shows that we’ve got some veteran leadership in the secondary and we’re excited to make some plays this year.”

Lot of dead weight there.
Players I wouldn't mind if they had stuck around: Butler and if (big if) they had their heads screwed on straight, Coleman and Gilmore. Maybe even Gbayor.
Princewill and Boerkircher, maybe even Dowdell, should probably fit in this cateory, but fuck em.

I have sympathy for Boerkircher. He got some bad advice and when he asked to come back, he was told that it was probably best for him to move on. I don't think he actually wanted to leave.

Don’t know for sure but thought a former NU staffer was at T A&M and was cruiting Boerk hard. NIL offer was more to leave to TA&M. So basically illegally recruiting him and constantly pumping him up that he was getting screwed at NU.
