If Minnesota didn't have their fucking DL coach hired by the second week in january, you bet your ass I would.

I know the official narrative coming out of north stadium on the DL hire is making its rounds but its horseshit. We were not ready to make this hire. Coming off the end to the season it was unacceptable.

Rhule hasn't had a bad Dline in his career until this year, but that's been on the back of developing players. He's not equipped to move quickly in the portal era. Thats my assement, and im not sure he's capable developing this program commensurate with resources at his disposal
question asks GIF

I'm not normally negative but why is every guy we're into only have 1-2 sacks and a few tackles
I don't think you need crazy stats to have a big impact on games:

Kiper's top 5 DTs:

1) Kayden McDonald: 31 solo tackles, 3 sacks, 2 FF
2) Peter Woods: 9 solo tackles, 2 sacks
3) A'Mauri Washington: 15 solo tackles, 1.5 sacks
4) Lee Hunter: 16 solo tackles, 2.5 sacks
5) Caleb Banks: 2 solo tacks, 0 sacks (got hurt maybe?)

Edge is obviously a different story.

Rhule’s gamble was that the program would take off in year 3. Obviously that didn’t pan out.

It’s part of the reason it was so surprising that he took the risky path on DC. I imagine he thought continuity was the more conservative play, but he needed to get a Cignetti “production over potential” guy there to make year 3 what he wanted it to be.

I know he didn’t like the term “reset”, but that is most definitely what is happening now. Hopefully his faith in Dana isn’t misplaced because he can’t afford another reset on the offense next year too.
That’s fair

Most of them seem to be freshman or sophomore’s atleast

He is a younger guy but was a projected starter for Pitt next year who fits what Aurich is looking for
I don't have any problem with taking on guys that show future promise. In fact I support it. But don't we need some damn provide dudes right now? Not suggesting that's the argument you're making, just frustrating.

The one thing I find odd is your want your roster to get old and stay old. Wouldn’t you want this for most of your assistant coaching staff as well in the first assistant’s roles too? This part has miffed me. It’s good to develop younger coaches in the B1G but not as first level assistants imo and expect success in developing, recruiting and playing calling which is what we’ve seen.

I agree with this. Getting McCord and letting Dylan work behind him would’ve been a lot better.

We were late in the recruiting game anyway but it wasn’t an instant marketing play to try and get new guys

There is no way on God's green earth that any team in college football was signing both Kyle McCord & Dylan Raiola. Yeah, it would have been nice - it would also have been impossible.

it doesn’t help when recruits go onto twitter and see the collective fanbase griping about everything. Like almost no support. Easy to negatively recruit against us right now.
All major programs have this and higher levels of complaining while having really good years. Alabama as an example went to the playoffs and got hammered. Their fan base wants to run their HC out of town yet they will continue to recruit in the top 15-10.

Maybe DL coaches were no more excited about being here than the players.

Rhule has to be very concerned with the situation at DL. He tried to get ERob and the Auburn guy. He’s not an idiot.

It has to be humbling for a guy who prides himself as a salesman to keep hearing “no” at a position he thinks he knows as well as anyone.
I always wondered if we missed out on the Auburn guy because ERob took the job while he was in Lincoln.
