Yeah you add Thompkins that's at least throwing bodies at a problem to solve it.

I wish they would take the same approach up front on defense.
I mean they have "bodies" at DT, everyone is just clamoring for a "bigger" NT.
So far they've added Whittington, Burburija, and possibly Berymon.
They have RVP, Parrot, Lefotu, Simpson, & Terry coming back. The move to a 4 man front fits all of those guys better, as well as tweaner like Lenhardt.

Parrott is a walk on, outside of RVP and Lenhardt none of those guys have experience. They are probably not high rep guys this year and that's not a knock on them. Generally you see a redshirt and a year or two of reps building up to a starter. When I say bodies, I don't mean they need a 350 lbs guy. I mean they need bodies that have been through the rigmarole of being a full time or near full time defensive lineman.

This is why Nebraska struggled last year. They thought RVP could jump in and give them starter reps when he wasn't ready. And they over estimated Juedy. Then they struck out in the portal and panicked and signed a kid that is now at Tulsa.

Yeah it would be nice if they landed at least 1 DT and 1 EDGE who were no brainer dudes

For anyone who needs to hear this (not directed at you)…

Aurich doesn’t play a dedicated nose. His 1-tech shifts into position based on offensive alignment; it’s an over front and the 1 is on the weak side. If the offense flips their strong side, our DTs just shift, not flip. So, our DTs need to be capable of playing the spread of 1, 2i, 2, and 3 (he plays the DTs at 3 on passing downs a good deal) as down to down they will go back and forth on what they are playing. The desire for a fat ass to just stare at centers all game isn’t what Aurich wants so it shouldn’t be what we expect. We should expect versatility.

When you say a "1" are you talking about a shade or inside eye of the guard? Different people use different terminology.

In my mind a 1 is inside eye of the guard and a shade is a shade.

But our defense's terminology is a 1 is a shade and a 2i is inside eye of the guard.

I think you should still have at least one thicc boy for the 4th and 1s and the goal line stands.

I could always tell exactly when a big run was coming on us because Butler had the defense lined up so bad.

3 down against 11 personnel with all others 4 yards deep in the end zone against Cockeye was the last straw for me.

I’m not a football genius. But I know good and well those three DL don’t have a prayer against those numbers.

When I watch some of Aurich I’m seeing the DL aligned quite differently and I feel it’s going to give us more success stopping the run.

There is no more helpless feeling than not being about to stop 3 and 4 yard run plays all game long.

Yes? I’m looking at shitty angles from the tv broadcast so perfect alignment is hard to get but it looks to me like whomever sets as the weak side DT is either shading the C, or on the guard’s shoulder.

What I think I see when I roll that beautiful bean footage is 5-1-2i-5 as the most consistent DL alignment.

I haven’t seen anyone over the center yet, ftr.
