2024 offense

Nebraska needs to throw big dick money on oline transfers. There will be a few, most will look for already competitive teams.
OL will be the highest sought after group in this year's portal (it always is). I think the NIL $$ for OL is going to be cranked up a notch even from last year.

Colorado for one. Deion thinks he's gonna get like 4-5 OL starters in the portal, which is insane. We might be fishing in the same pond on some of those - so it will be interesting to see which OL portal guys go for Deion's sales pitch. I'm worried that Deion will get a decent NIL fund built up courtesy of his famous/rich friends. It will be interesting to see if any OL portal guys pick CU over us.

Beating Cockeye on Friday and being in a bowl would be really really really really really really really really really really really really helpful to send a message to our future portal targets that we are a program on the rise. If we lose to Cockeye and miss a bowl than we're essentially the same level as Prime's CU program & I fear a lot of kids would rather play for the exciting CU/Prime "we coming" phenomenon. As always, I hope I'm wrong.

And this is not even to mention the better programs like Oklahoma etc who have beat us to portal OL in the past bc they have more success to point to.

2 starting OLs is a big ask.
Especially tackles. There aren't even enough quality tackles to start both sides of the line for all of P5; thinking NIL deals will take care of 2 OL spots & have them in good shape is like doing financial planning based on winning the lottery.

For some context, Jacob Hood (who a bunch of people are ready to write off & run out of the program) was rated as the #35 transfer tackle last year. The #13 portal tackle is 3rd string at his new school, #14 is a backup, #5 guy was moved to guard. That's just spot-checking a few.

What you typically have is a very small handful of guys who are potential impact players, almost all of which are 1 year guys looking for an NFL finishing school.

Last year we brought in an above-average interior lineman in Scott, & 2 developmental/gamble T prospects in Hood/Knaak. Had a shot at one of those 1-year guys, before that went south for reasons that vary depending on whose story you listen to. That's an above-average portal haul.

I could see landing a guy who competes for Nouili's former spot next year... I suspect we'll be hard-pressed to pull more than that from the portal, unless some of the current guys with eligibility left decide to move on.

CU might have some boosters that pony up NIL cash, but his celebrity friends won't donate shit. they just want to hopp on the hype train for some attention, but now that he's failing that will largely stop

the bigger danger, imo, would be some companies trying to get publicity by attaching themselves to Deion, but thankfully their implosion at the end of this season should make that less likely too

Good points.

The interesting thing about Deion going after OL transfers is - as others have mentioned - good OL JRs or SRs really want to go to good teams. I just don't know how Deion is going to make they argument to these guys when his team went 1-8 in last 9 games. Maybe he'll get an HBCU OL guy? I just don't see how a Walter Rouse type player would want to go to a team like that.

I was worried about a CU bounce back in yr 2 (we play them in game 2). But I honestly don't know how they're going to improve their OL that much via the portal. We sure as hell haven't been able to.

And they’ve only got 9 commits right now

I’m excited to see what Deion does

I would be shocked if Rattler goes in the first round

Caleb Williams
Drake Maye
Shadildo Sanders
JJ McCarthy
Michael Penix Jr
Spencer Rattler
Bo Nix
Quinn Ewers
Carson Beck
Jayden Daniels
Michael Pratt
Riley Leonard
Cameron Ward
Tyler Van Dyke

I think a mid-late round NFL QB is the ceiling from Satterfield, that's an improvement, but I don't think it's what we're hoping for long-term.

Could be that's all we need, though. An NFL roster type who's more of a game-manager.
Yeah it was just one mock draft... Either way he has NFL talent, but NFL QBs outside the 1st round are a real mix bag

I doubt Hamburglar would switch from QB. He can provide depth there as a backup with game experience, plus he’d need to put on like 30 lbs of muscle to be a TE. He’s 215

Carter Nelson will be in the TE room right away not receiver room and i think he plays a lot next year.

It won’t take him long to put on weight in Lincoln, look at his calves. He’s only staying slim right now for high jump. His dad is a big guy who played line in college. Nelson will be 250 in a jiffy.

He could very well get to 250 by fall. His blocking and route running technique might still be shit but he'll be at least top 10 athletically the day he walks onto campus. Probably higher. You get him in the game as much as possible.

We’ve clearly demonstrated that we will deal with talented freshmen being ass at blocking as long as they make plays with the ball in their hands.
