Obviously the dude was good enough to start at Alabama for the whole season and you have to feel like they'd just bring a better option off the bench if they had one.
In effect, they did. His back-up was a RS freshman who played about 300 snaps. He said if he didn't get the starting RT job he was leaving. From the On 3 Tennessee board -

Pritchett also just finished his sophomore season - with 2 years left, you'd still project some upside & improvement.

Earlier in the season when 'Bama was rolling, he was added to the Outland watch list, so there must have been at least some pretty good play. I know the PFF grades this season were very pedestrian, but this situation also hits all 3 of the PFF scenarios where they struggle with accuracy in grading, IMO: OL specifically, under-grading individuals when the team/unit as a whole is struggling, and under-grading when going against better competition.

I wouldn't pound the table for this guy to be a dude who strolls in and locks down his edge like an All-American, but I would be more than happy to get a guy like this at a position of extreme scarcity.

What’s his face that burned Cockeye twice by going to bama had a shitty freshman season then was really pretty good this year

I’d take

Yeah, digging in a little bit more, Fomby won the starting job in camp. Pritchett played at LT in the opener for an injured Proctor, and got injured before USF, but came off the bench for their last three scoring drives. By and large replaced Fomby at RT for the rest of the season.

I was referring to the end of the season. I posted this elsewhere; it was a nugget from the editor of the Tennessee On 3 site. He said at the end of the season Fromby told Bama if they wouldn't make him the #1 RT next season, he was leaving the program. So Pritchett left the program.

Formby (2024 was his RS freshman season)

This is a little misleading. Alabama's entire line was named national player of the week as a unit and that is how he was added (the watch list started with 75 names on July 30, Bryce Benhart was on it, the national player of the week was added to the list every week).

Seems like Bama made the decision that Formby was their preferred option going forward, but Pritchett took the job and held it for 2024. For whatever all that is worth. Probably not up there with what starting Bama OL would mean over most of the Saban years, but dude still started the entire SEC slate and has upside with 1 year as a starter.

I am fine with taking him even if he doesn't improve. We need a right tackle, and he is the best man standing currently. There don't appear to be better options.

This. Players are allowed to improve as they get older and more experienced. I remember when people thought Suh sucked after his SO year.

Yeah, I assumed once the Wrath of Conn committed that this guy and Mr. Hyphen from U of A were likely not takes.
They probably decided that Conn was less of a risk with his Mozee connection than guys that were going to be on their 3rd and 4th schools. I wouldn't be surprised if we took one more though.
