2021 Husker Baseball Thread (Big 10 Champions)

Game 4 against Purdue is tomorrow at 10am.

Skers 2-0 in the 7th. Purdue has bases loaded with 2 outs.

Nebraska's batters have struck out 15 times today.

Purdue has runners on first and third now with one out in the bottom of the 8th.

Huskers get the double play and get themselves out of another tricky situation.

2-0 Skers. Top of the 9th.

Nebraska starts the year 3-1.

On Friday we play Ohio State. Then Cockeye on Saturday. Then Ohio State and Cockeye on Sunday.

Really like how the first weekend went. Wish we could've found a way to win on Friday, but going to have some weird games.

Seems like this should be a top tier of the B1G and maybe a fringe top 25 unit.

Thoughts?

From what I have gathered reading previews and perusing other boards:

1. The top teams in the Big 10 are Michigan, Indiana, Maryland, and Ohio State. Each team is solid across the board.

2. Most people are picking us to finish around 8th in the conference. Cockeye, Illinois, and Minnesota get ranked before us. The belief is that all four of those teams have the potential to be in the top 4 of the conference but each team has some question marks.

3. Nebraska has one of the best lineups in the Big 10. Possibly the best. We will not have any issues scoring runs this season.

4. The big question mark for Nebraska is the pitching staff. Apparently we lost a couple of important guys to injury. We do have some really good pitchers on the staff though, and this group looked pretty good against Purdue this weekend.

5. Apparently Erstad liked to play small ball. Someone on another board said that Erstad teams were "grinders," which didn't leave a lot of room for error. Bolt on the other hand is all about power pitching, power hitting, and playing aggressive.

6. It's worth noting that Purdue was picked to finish 9th in the conference, right after us, and they had a lot of returning players I think. And we slapped the shit out of them. Should have swept them.

7. We do play Ohio State and Cockeye next weekend, so we should know a lot more about this team by this time next week. Ohio State has the best pitching staff in the conference.

Evan Blande says we might need to win 30+ games this year to get into the tournament. There might only be 2 Big 10 teams in the tournament this year.
