Did you get them free with the book-it stuff from school? It was the best pizza ever.

Shakey's Pizza for my Birthday Parties growing up. Hells yeah to dancing musical Bears and mediocre pizza. I think a couple times for my birthday we went to a place called Dolly's that had All You Can Eat Crab Legs. My skinny little ass would camp out on those tasty little morsels. Can't remember but gotta believe after about a dozen baskets of those Crab Legs, all dipped in melted Butter that I had the shits something fierce the next day. You can't put that much melted butter in a kid and not expect the exit pipes to be all lubed up.

When I was a kid and we'd drive to visit relatives in Missouri, we would stop at a "Sambo's" which I think was around St Joseph's.

It had many racist overtones that were still ok in the 80's. Don't think there are anymore Sambo's out there

Years after Shakey’s closed in Omaha, there was a place in St. Joseph called Dapper Dan’s that was almost identical

Pizza hut, valentinos, later on valentinos buffet. Side note, I drove past the Valentinos buffet location and had completely forgotten it closed. Crazy how these days you pretty much only eat from those places if you're getting delivery.

Casa Bonita of coarse, jk.

If we were really lucky Pizza Hut and that was usually if it was someone other than my parents idea.

I think my mom coined the phrase "We have food at home".

Same lady will now wait 20+ minutes in the McDonald's drive thru to get my nephew chicken nuggets because he's "starving" because he didn't like what they were serving for lunch at school that day. 🤣

She was trying to make ends meet at the time. Your mom, that is.

Oh I know and I appreciate it. It made me learn at an early age the value of hard work and how to manage my money.

I just like to give her a bad time once and a while about how she spoils my nephew. He's the only grandkid.

He's actually a really good kid that helps my mom out a lot around the house and with her gardening and yard work.

Early '70s Friday night ritual prior to a home game was Alice's Restaurant in Lincoln. Myself and 2 buddies who also had season tickets would usually order the 30oz. Porterhouse and you could cut it with a fork and a butter knife. I don't even know if it's stiil there, probably not, but it was special.
