That's really funny and accurate. When I spent my junior year abroad in Hong Kong, all 10 of us Americans were given Chinese names which were made up because our real names just didn't make any sense to the Chinese.
What was really funny was the names they gave the girls. Chinese like flower names for girls for some reason. Our 5 girls ended up sounding like a bunch of strippers with names like Ginger, Cinnamon, and Orchid. The best part was that they were all Chinese -American but had American names which were unacceptable.
