Week 6 v Michigan State: Depth Chart, Game Notes, etc

That does feel high. I think we can score on them, but I think they can score on us. My hunch, we are getting a lot of credit for how our secondary grades out as MSU isn't a RTDB team. I'd probably set this closer to 6.5. Indiana is only a touchdown favorite over Cockeye. I'd also take the over in this game. Something like 34-27 feels right to me at this point.

Idk, I watched MSU at USC last week and MSU looked significantly better than I thought. Another team where their strength is our weakness. Chiles is elusive and pretty good at keeping the play alive with his legs.

Didn’t you all think Underwood was going to kill us with his legs too?

ESPN FPI efficiency ratings have Michigan State's defense ranked among the 5 worst in the Power 4 at 103rd Nationally.

Whether you like that metric or not, they had Oregon #1 before the last 2 weeks and it's fairly clear that was correct.

Huskers are ranked #21 in FPI
Michigan State is #64

Cincinnati is ranked 39th and has the 9th ranked offense in the country.

Michigan is ranked 12th with the 14th ranked offense in the country.

Huskers are top 25 in defensive efficiency and top 45 in offense. Oddly enough, Nebraska's special teams takes a hit on FPI because of all the out of bounds kickoffs and the one miss of a chip shot.

I bring this up because FPI is pretty close to the metrics used by Vegas. So it's not surprising that Nebraska is a double digit favorite.

But, I do think bye weeks change things.

Honestly unless a player is clearly a developmental guy who isn’t physically ready like a TE who is going to grow into a OT or maybe a QB where there’s no reason to play as the back up, I don’t see the benefit of redshirting in the portal era - play whoever can help

Yup, redshirting players is now only for players who can’t contribute rt now, but you think they can with another year of development. Everyone else, if they can help they need to play. If they can’t help and you don’t think they ever will, send the message and start the processing.

FPI has Akron as #90 on defense for reference.

Based on Husker history, hammer the Spartans

I would bet on them to cover coming out of the bye. I bet they change some things up this week.

In the last 3 games Sparty has allowed 78 of 102 for 1,032 yards, 9 TDs and 1 pick.

And that includes getting shredded by Youngstown State. The Spartans need to change whatever they're doing defensively or Raiola is going to throw for 400+.

Also, they only 2 sacks in that time, both vs the FCS school.

Unless their coaches are stupid, they will change things defensively.

Don’t disagree with any of that, mine is more my Husker PTSD talking

Redshirting is irrelevant. The word is that it will be gone this year, next year at the latest, and that the change is retroactive (5 years eligibility in five years going forward). Even this season you're screwing someone if they are capable of playing and you don't get them on the field.

Redshirting good players today = developing them for someone else
