This is what I keep hoping. Prior to this year, I had heard that Darion was the better prospect between the two....

2. Half the top 10 are committed to P2 programs. We also took an in state guy rated outside the top 10. I understand that rankings are subjective but just seems like there’s something going on there with all those guys going elsewhere.

I would say Jensen and Jones were the only ones they truly recruited. Dayton Raiola took the QB spot, so that's why Thomallia was out. We had other TEs we liked as much or more than Jensen and we got one of those. Burbach, Van Seggern ad Wheeler we just seemed to have very little interest in. I think we liked Rule more than Wheeler and we were just taking 1 RB. The two OL? The room is loaded - and big - already. I don't think the coaches saw either one as a guy who could beat out anyone they took in the 26 class.

Clearly a bad take

There also has been speculation that Rhule may now feel that, generally, well-regarded Nebraska players just won't pan out all that well if they come to Lincoln. It's based on the track record. Also that with the 105 limit here there will be a lot fewer Nebraska kids.

Tuesday Tim-Bits: Big recruiting weekend on deck for Nebraska​

Nebraska is set to host a loaded group of visitors on Saturday to see the Huskers take on Biff's Butthole Surfers.

Here’s the latest intel on some notable additions to the visitor list, updates on a few commits set to return to Lincoln this weekend and some flip targets the Huskers are working to get into town.

Notable additions to the visitor list​

As HuskerOnline’s BryanMunson first reported, 2027 Kingwood (Tex.) five-star offensive tackle Kennedy Brown is set to return to Nebraska this weekend to see the Huskers take on Biff's Butthole Surfers. Brown made his first trip to Lincoln back in spring, and spoke exclusively to InsideNebraska after that visit, which you can read here. Brown’s recruitment has truly grown national, with contenders ranging from Oregon to Texas and Texas A&M, to Tennessee and Georgia. Nebraska exceeded expectations the first time around but they’ll look to further entrench themselves in this recruitment this weekend.

John Butler and Addison Williams have a talented group of 2027 defensive backs visiting. 2027 Long Beach (Cali.) Poly four-star cornerback JuJu Johnson and 2027 Gardena (Cali.) Junipero Serra four-star cornerbackDuvay Williams both visited Nebraska together for the Hudl Futures Forum back in June, the No.4 and No. 5 cornerback in the country are both set to return this weekend.

UCLA has been seen as the program to beat at times for Johnson, but considering the staff changes there, this is the perfect opportunity for the Huskers to gain some momentum in a hurry. USC is the favorite to keep Williams home, but he tells me he wants to seriously assess out-of-state programs this season, with Nebraska being among a handful he’s particularly interested in.

As Steve Wiltfong reported, top-ranked 2027 safety Kamarui Dorseyreturns to Nebraska this weekend. He made his first trip for the Battle at the Boneyard tournament in June. He’ll be visiting alongside fellow Georgia safety, 2027 Mableton (Ga.) Douglas County four-star safety Kennedy Green. The Huskers are battling primarily Georgia for Dorsey. As for Green, this will be his third trip to Lincoln. Nebraska quietly is making a move for the big-framed defender.

Nebraska gets another shot at Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek four-star safety Corey Hadley Jr., the No. 7 safety prospect nationally. Hadley has known Addison Williams since the eighth grade, visited him when he was at UCF multiple times, and has tripped to Nebraska twice already to re-connect with the Huskers’ defensive backs coach. Relationships are key here and his connection with Williams has the Huskers well-positioned in his recruitment.

“I need you to have a relationship with me, not just a fake relationship,” he told Inside Nebraska. “I need to know that I’m going to be taken care of as if I was at home with my mom or dad taking care of me. Be real with me, grow me into a better man and I need you to get me ready for the next level.”

Nebraska was initially expected to get fourth-ranked 2027 wide receiver Matthew Gregory on campus for the home opener two weekends ago, instead, the four-star speedster out of Pennsylvania will visit Nebraska this weekend. Huskers are battling Penn State for one of the fastest receivers in the country.

Along the offensive line, 2027 Frankfort (Ill.) Lincoln-Way East three-star offensive lineman Mason Halliman is a rising target on Nebraska’s board and one the Huskers could quickly gain momentum with. He’s a priority target for 2027 Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor. 2027 Englewood (Col.) Cherry Creek four-star offensive lineman Jackson Roper is scheduled to visit Nebraska for the first time on Saturday, he’s another the Huskers could quickly gain momentum with. Grinnell (Ia.) four-star offensive lineman Will Slagle is also expected to return. The Huskers are battling Cockeye and Cockeye State there.

Nebraska should be considered the leader for 2027 Lee’s Summit (Mo.) North wide receiver Justyn Lindsay, who landed his first offer from the Huskers after an impressive camp performance in June. Cockeye offered shortly after but considering Nebraska’s ties to Lee’s Summit North, this is Nebraska’s recruitment to lose. Lindsay will be back in town this weekend.

Defensive line coach Terry Bradden will have 2027 Delray Beach (Fla.) West Boca Raton four-star defensive lineman Jamar Thompson on campus on Saturday. The No. 7 defensive lineman in the country has developed a good relationship with Bradden through consistent communication. This will be his first trip to Nebraska, as the Huskers look to beat out the likes of Georgia, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, and Tennessee.

Commits set to return​

Top-ranked 2026 Nebraska commit Danny Odem is set to return to Lincoln this weekend. That’s an encouraging development considering schools like Clemson and Ohio State are still sniffing around. 2026 three-star wide receiver commit Nalin Scott returns to Nebraska this Saturday after taking in Georgia Tech’s upset win over Clemson this past weekend. The Huskers will have a chance to shut both recruitments down for good this weekend

Four-star offensive tackle commit Claude Mpouma, three-star wide receiver Larry Miles, three-star offensive lineman Rex Waterman, 2027 four-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor, 2027 four-star safety commit Tory Pittman and 2027 three-star offensive line commit Matt Erickson are among other commits expected back in Lincoln on Saturday.

Huskers aiming for a few flips​

Nebraska is working to get a few 2026 and 2027 prospects committed elsewhere on campus this weekend.

2026 Syracuse four-star EDGE commit Kamron Wilson told me earlier this month he’s set to visit Nebraska this weekend. The Orange, and others are trying to prevent that trip from happening, so this is a relatively fluid situation to watch leading up to Saturday. Florida State, UCF and Mississippi State are among others trying to flip him from Syracuse.

The Huskers are working to get 2026 Biff's Butthole Surfers four-star defensive line commit Julian Walker on campus to see Nebraska take on the Wolverines, but it feels like a long shot. In-state South Carolina just had Walker on campus back-to-back weekends, and his father is on staff there, as the Gamecocks work to keep him home. This feels like a Michgian-South Carolina battle that the Huskers are trying to wedge themselves into. That said, anything is on the table if the four-star does actually end up in Lincoln on Saturday.

With top-ranked 2026 defensive back commit Danny Odem set to return on Saturday, could he bring his teammate, and once top Nebraska safety target Devin Jackson along with him? Oregon has made it known they’d like Jackson to stay locked in with his commitment to the Ducks and not make any other visits. But Jackson’s relationship with Addison Williams is unique. It’s unlikely, but something to monitor as Saturday gets closer.

Nebraska would also like to get 2026 Florida State four-star safety commit Tedarius Hughes on campus for a game day visit. It could come together this weekend, but it’s more likely the Huskers get their shot at Hughes later this year. He still has an official visit available to use on Nebraska. Syracuse is also working to flip him away.

2026 Melbourne (Fla.) Central Catholic three-star offensive lineman Javeion Cooper is still expected to visit Nebraska this season. A date hasn’t been set just yet by Cooper or his representation, but whether it’s Saturday or later this season, Nebraska will get another shot at the massive Syracuse commit.

In the 2027 cycle, we reported last month that four-star linebacker/safety Gabe Jenkins was expected to visit Nebraska this weekend. Then he pulled the trigger on an early Penn State commitment Aug. 18. Jenkins tells me the trip down to Lincoln is still on, as long as he can find a ride down to Nebraska. That’s one I’ll be tracking closely in the hours leading up to kickoff.
