OT - Dog joint care

Steroids and doggy weed will get your pooch feeling good again.
Wouldn’t go steroids in this situation. 2 steps forward and three steps back. They have their place but not in this case.

There’s a lot of shitty vets out there love hearing an owner come back in 4 days saying there dog is walking perfect again and “acting like a puppy” because it strokes their ego. And they love it even more when the same owner comes in 3 weeks later and the dog is worse than ever because it strokes their wallet. Rinse, repeat.

I’d go Jope (or BioPup/PetFlex) and Glucosomine together if you don’t mind the cost. Anecdotally, I’ve had several patients completely turn the corner on it and have had owners report tangible improvement in a matter of days whereas with glucosomine you’re looking at weeks/months of consistent use to notice anything.

Aside from that, talk to your vet if he starts having acute episodes and see if you can get some Carprofen prescribed for those instances. It’s an NSAID and with acute episodes that are happening alongside normal age-related joint issues, it can perk them up pretty fast.

I’m limping my own dog along using this regimen and I honestly didn’t think he was going to make it to August. I would say he’s as stable now as he was in March, which I never would have imagined. Thinking I might get another year out of him because he’s totally healthy besides his joints.

I ordered this stuff, mentioned earlier in the thread. Thoughts?

It’s a good brand.

Depends how bad the pup is. If it’s truly “just some slowing down,” that stuff might help and slow the aging process. It he’s unable to get up at times and you worry about his stability, I’d pair it with something like Jope or BioPup, something with Collagen.

- Dasuquin Advanced with ESM, you can either get it from your vet or you can message me and I can point you in the right direction elsewhere.
- Adequan IM injection.
- Librela.

I second the Dasuquin. There is also an OTC version that I’ve been giving my 10 year old Brittany for about three years now. He’s still ten years old, but he moves better now and shows less discomfort and more mobility than he did prior to starting.

Adequan…they need to make in an OTC human form. Just sayin’.

I guess I had better luck than most. My bulldog wouldn’t get off the couch and looked extra depressed (bulldogs look depressed even when they’re happy lol) and steroids rejuvenated him and gave him good quality of life in his final years.

Your dog will have to per every 15 minutes though haha

She is still mobile and stable. We do 3/4 mile walks every other day. If she goes hard for a day she sometimes limps. Overall she is doing pretty good considering everything. I just want to keep it that way for as long as possible and keep her as comfortable as possible until the end.
