Damn, that’s moving. Am I wrong to think you don’t see many elite 400 runners in college football? Seems to usually be the 100 or 200 guys.
You're right, because you usually put your fastest dudes in the 100 and 200. But 47.2 in the 400 is smoking, and shows he has great mental toughness and sprint endurance.

  1. Big-time pickup
Rule chose the Huskers over fellow Power Five programs Virginia Tech, Michigan State, and Syracuse—marking a significant victory for Nebraska in the competitive Big Ten and ACC recruiting landscape.
  2. High athletic potential
At 6'1″ and 205 lb, Rule rushed for 1,236 yards and 15 TDs in just 7 junior-season games, averaging over 9 yards per carry—and impressive performances like 230 yards and 2 TDs in one playoff game underscore his explosiveness.
  3. On-track for big development
Scouts note Rule’s “physical, one-cut-and-go style” with long speed, solid balance, pass-catching ability, and room to add weight to move closer to an every-down back role.
  4. Coach‑recruit relationship paid off
Narrowing in on Nebraska’s RB coach E.J. Barthel—who built a deep bond from November through visits and family meetings—Rule credits Barthel’s support as pivotal in his decision.
  5. Multiple visits signal real interest
Rule took three unofficial visits and one official visit earlier this month. These interaction opportunities—especially dinners and practice walkthroughs—helped him envision life as a Husker.
  6. Second commit of the day
Joining 4★ CB Danny Odem earlier, Rule became Nebraska’s second headliner commitment on June 23, highlighting the momentum Nebraska has gained in solidifying its ’26 class.
  7. Bolsters RB depth for ’26
With Rule added, Nebraska strengthens a position group that lacked proven production behind leader Emmett Johnson, making Rule likely the lone RB recruit in this cycle.
  8. Boost for team culture & style fit
Rule cited Nebraska’s fan base, football culture, committed coaches, and strong rushing tradition as major draws—traits that align with his strengths and aspirations.
  9. National recruiting class gains
With Rule on board, Nebraska's 2026 class now features eight commitments, lifting its ranking into the mid-50s nationally—showing progress and appeal in this recruiting season.
  10. Room to grow into star potential
Barthel has “lofty expectations,” reportedly telling Rule he could be “the next Heisman”—a strong vote of confidence that shows Nebraska expects Rule to develop into a marquee star.

Or is it because being an elite 100 or 200 runner translates better to football than being an elite 400 runner?
Well, yes, being fast translates to being a good football player. And as I said, teams usually put their fastest dudes in the 100 and 200. If a track team has a guy whose going to be a D1 WR/DB/RB, he's probably going to be one of the fastest guys on the team and end up running the 100 or 200 (or 110 hurdles).

Would Rule be a better football player if he ran the 100 instead of the 400? I doubt you'd see much of a difference. I would even go as far as to answer that question with "no." These days most track programs focus on increasing maximum speed and there isn't much difference in how you train guys to run the 100, 200 and 400. (Though I see Rule runs on a state championship 4x800 team, so he could do some different training for that. Though sometimes elite spinters can just gut out an 800).
