Football Official Visit Tracker (Update 5/25 -Luke Sorensen added)

247 reports today that Sorensen is arriving June 5 now

Titan Davis was our only DL OV scheduled (we are trying to get Sone scheduled). He switched to an OV with USC, which has 5 DL commits already, 3 of the top 18 in the country. What does that suggest to you?

I’m not sure that it means as much about us as we may want to infer. Could also just mean that USC thought their DL depth was dogshit and was willing to put a ton of money into it after getting pushed around their first year in the B1G.

His top two teams going into this weekend were Alabama and Michigan from all accounts. Michigan has no DL commits, Alabama has one.

His 3 OVs before this weekend were to schools between 370 and 420 miles from home. USC is almost 1700 miles from home. Penn St is 670.

Something clearly happened, and it has to do with Nebraska I am guessing. Until the last several days it appeared to be a 3-team race between Alabama, Michigan and Nebraska

I mean NU has zero 2026 DL commits and he is an edge which are always in demand as they can rush the passer. It is very odd that we put all this time and resources into him to just completely fall out at the 11th hour. Now we turn to Sone and who for DL in 2026 class that is similar profile?

No Sone isn't the same profile as Davis. His profile is one we are short of - RVP is probably the closest to him.

Davis is 6-4. 265; I wonder if we viewed him as a 3 technique or a 5-technique? It doesn't matter - Sone fills a role for which we have a greater need in my view. We just invested a large amount of money in a five-star edge who has 4 years of college eligibility remaining. We have an incoming freshman who likely required an above average freshman revenue share and who is 6-3 265 and projects as both a possible Edge or a 3 technique.

As I believe I said in another thread, this is likely a GM decision about allocated finite resources.

I'd say Finch is the replacement for Davis - also projects as a 3 technique or possibly an Edge, good pass rusher, and he would likely accept a standard freshman revenue share.

So why in the hell did they put all this time in to pull out at the 11th hour bc money? What a waste of recruiting resources.

Probably got to a bidding war and we didn't compete. Which is fine in the rev share world IMO
It is just very difficult to understand how NU’s roster which is ok is tapped on rev share vs Michigan, USC etc who pull in way higher classes over many many years. I don’t really care it’s just odd.

Could be lots of things, we probably have X dollars allocated to each position group etc. Every team will have different amounts at different places based on their current roster and returning players etc.

It will be interesting to see how it all works out in general with the salary cap.

Yes me understand however our talent level due to significantly lower classes compared to Michigan and USC means we have overallocated for lower level talent if we are tapped out and they are not. They are signing top 10 level classes and we’ve been barely in the top 25. Maybe we have to in order to get medium level talent to Nebraska idk.

It isn't just recruiting - it is allocation of the cap to portal takes as well. That being said, it is hard to make comparisons to prior year's classes as there was no cap. Thery had a bunch of high-priced guys transfer out., One of the reasons they have a highly ranked class is that they already have 26 commits, which is far and away the most in the country. In the B1G, Oregon has 8, Ohio St 13, Michigan 7, Penn St 17. USC seems to have a different go forward strategy than most teams.

It's also tough to compare because most players in high demand do not commit until after June visits.

Titan Davis is this years reality check so far. When it comes down to it he just has better options at this point. He has 37 offers from the who's who of college football, and can go anywhere he wants. NU while on the rise (hopefully) has had only one winning season in eight years for example. NU has more money than most but it is not unlimited, so there are stops in place for how much they will spend on a player and how much they think a player is worth. They may also have a "salary cap" for each individual room. With the roster limits they also have only so many spots for the different positions. So as much as they want a guy like Davis there are limitations.

This will go over well but I feel like they are in the Mike Riley level of recruiting right now with a few exceptions of course. Recruits love to visit, love the coaches, but when it comes down to it they end up somewhere else unfortunately. I still remember Micah Parsons flying down the sideline catching passes burning 4-Star DBs and hugging it up with the coaches with probably around zero chance of him ending up there.

Rhule has a lot of things headed in the right direction but when it comes down to it he still needs to get the wins.

An interesting picture of all the DL in the 2026 class that are 4 stars or above (so far only one 5 star). On 3 has an EDGE classification as well but they typically put good pass rushing guys who are big/strong enough to play across from or inside the tackles as DL, which is why Titan is on this list. What is striking is both that very few are committed and also the frequency with which you see certain schools, although the schools On 3 lists are heavily driven by things like social media mentions. The percentages are notoriously unreliable.

I think Titan ends up at Michigan. His Mom told Wiltfong that she has never seen him as excited about a visit as he was after that one.
