You have to give guys chances, we have way too much talent and depth to not giving them chances. Swanson maybe has had a terrible season, but the dude was one of the nation leaders in home runs last year, it would be awful silly to give up on him completely. It would probably be just as silly to start him all three games on the weekend, especially when there's lots of good bats waiting for their chance.
I agree with all of that to an extent, but I’m asking “at what point have they had enough chances”? How far along in the season does it become “they are who they are”?

Speaking of Swansen specifically, he didn't hit super well until April last year either.

Yeah by no means am I saying to give up on anyone. In Bolt/Childress I trust. Just asking questions.

Keep stacking series wins, throw in a couple sweeps, win a majority of the remaining midweeks and let’s host a regional.

I'm genuinely a bit surprised that we're moving up this week. Obviously Pickle Smoochers is solid and Ohio State is a decent team, but I didn't think that 2-2 would move the needle in a positive way. Do you think this is more of a case where other ranked schools had worse showings than we did?

Good question. A couple weeks back, Kendall at D1 made the comment that for him weekend results weigh more than weekday when it comes to rankings. I think he made that comment when some ranked teams (Florida) were losing midweek to bad teams (Jacksonville) then went on to win a conference series. That's just one example. I don't expect him to hold his word for long though as we're past the half-way point of the season.

Our overall RPI (18) is very strong, our non-conf is slightly stronger (16), non-conf strength of schedule (28) and overall sos (57). Add this; 0-3 in Q1, 12-4 in Q2, 6-1 in Q3 and 4-0 in Q4. We have no bad quad losses, and the one Q3 loss we have is at home to South Alabama (RPI 82) where we won the series. All of the metrics added up support us still in the Top 25. I feel confident in saying Kendall knows he's a week late in ranking us too.

I don't believe 2-2 will keep us in the polls long. Maybe one more week. We really need a 3-1 week @ Kansas and 3 @ Rutgers. After that, 8 of our next 9 are at home and we can really make a statement to host a Regional heading in to the last 10 games of the season.

Evan Bland reporting Ty Horn will get the start at Kansas.

Bolt on Sports Nightly:
- Team has a charter flight to Piscataway, sharing with softball *** (see below)
- Brumbaugh close to returning defensively, could be this weekend
- Expect to see Brockett at some point Tuesday
- Columbus has been out with a hamstring
- Bradford was sick for 2 games against tOSU
- Hawks was laser graded recently and it's made the surface much smoother. Most other B1G teams have turf so this has really helped the transition of playing on turf (turf plays much faster though)
- Expecting to see multiple arms from Kansas Tuesday
- Sears is a starter and that's the biggest difference between last season & this. Says he has an incredible work ethic, understands how to take care of himself and the younger guys on the staff have taken notice.

He also said it's very unlikely to make up the canceled game against Kansas State. Schedules don't match up from a finals standpoint and neither coach is interested in playing 5 games during the conference schedule. We have a 5 game week at the end of April and that's it. Bolt said he'd love to play the game as he believes it benefits both teams from an RPI standpoint. IMO, if we lose another game to weather then talks with KSU will heat up again.

*** Interesting development as baseball was suppose to have more charter flights begining in year two for Bolt (2021). Moos made the guarantee to all that interviewed. It didn't happen so when Alberts took over he acknowledged it. Didn't happen in 2022 or 2023 and 2024 has the standard 3 charters we've always had. (This is just 1 of the bullshit moves Alberts has pulled with baseball, more after the season). I'm hopeful our new AD will address this. It's a brutal schedule getting back to Omaha around 11pm-1am then arrive in Lincoln between midnight-2:30am with classes Monday morning.

I’m not familiar with the Os farm system, obviously the big league team is good. Cade can’t be that far away from a call up I would think (maybe not this year but in the next couple)

If he keeps pitching the way he did last year then I'd bet he gets a cup of coffee at some point this year when they have a couple of pitchers hit the IL. He's a top 3 pitching prospect in their organization now.

I didn’t realize Sears was from Harlan, IA until this morning. No wonder he’s such a tough and resilient SOB.

That was not a place you wanted to play in baseball, basketball, and certainly not football back in the 2000s
