Oregon’s next star quarterback announced his move to Eugene on Saturday, as Oklahoma transfer Dillon Gabriel committed to the Ducks.
Gabriel began his career at UCF before spending the past two seasons at Oklahoma. In 2023, he tossed for 3,660 yards with 30 passing touchdowns for the 10-2 Sooners.
Gabriel was one of the top quarterback transfers available, per The Athletic’s portal tracker ranking. After considering a move to the NFL, he will opt to use his final year of eligibility with Oregon, which is coming off an 11-2 season and will play in the Fiesta Bowl.
How big is this for Oregon
Gabriel was seen by many college coaches we spoke to over the past month as the top QB in the transfer portal. He’s not very big at about 5-foot-11, 200 pounds, but he’s been incredibly productive and has started 49 college games. This year, he produced 42 total touchdowns with just six interceptions and averaged 9.5 yards per attempt. He sparked OU to go from 5-7 to 10-2 and led them to a win over Texas, a playoff team.“He is very accurate and has a really quick release and is a dangerous runner,” said one Power 5 recruiting coordinator. “He’s really football savvy and is a great college quarterback.” He should be an ideal fit for the Ducks offensive system as they try to replace another dynamic dual-threat guy in Bo Nix who also was very adept at making quick decisions. — Bruce Feldman, senior college football writer
