Special Teams Coach Hot Board

The issue for decades has been and continues to be bad admin and compliance staff coupled with boosters tied to building teams clean like good ole TO did. Build best facilities, don’t fund NIL etc. Always four steps behind the top levels.
I wonder if they are going ahead with the new stadium project? My dad put in a sub bid through Kiewit. That would be the dumbest thing to spend on at this point. Money should be going towards NIL.

That would make sense to fund half of NIL compared to peer schools and then spend half a bill on the stadium. Our boosters and admin are actually retarded. Texas Tech’s facilities probably suck. They just spend an extra $20mm on their roster per year which considering how much the fb team makes and more they would make with being good would be the best ROI. So NU will rebuild the stadium 😆🤷🏽

"I think we will be better than we were."

Then why in the fuck did you offer Ek a top 2 salary for ST coach!?! Quit talking out of your ass, Matt. Goodness man.
He carefully said that offer was made mid-season.

As others have said, Ek seems like a transient. He doesn't last in one place for very long. Most of the time that is upon the individual and something within them, not the organization.
An appropriate ode to Ek inspired by the Bomber

Lord, I was born a ramblin' man
Tryin' to make a livin' and doin' the best I can
And when it's time for leavin', I hope you'll understand
That I was born a ramblin' man

I don't agree with most in this thread, and that may be because I saw a lot of bad in the special teams especially the decision making that Rhule was referring to. If KO return decisions are made prior to the kick by the coach and not the receiver, that's a problem and not normal. There are typically coached standards for when to return, when to fair catch, and when to let it go through the endzone. I share Rhule's take that we took way too many balls out of the endzone that put us inside the 20 to start drives. It happened a lot. That's what he's referring too.

Additionally, he is basically saying that next year, whether Mike is coaching here or not, they will be better because they are going to use the same system and they will be more familiar with it; all while being more disciplined in decision making for KO return. That's what the whole statement was referring to, KO return.

I completely agree with what Rhule is saying. Is it obvious that he's annoyed by whatever is going on behind the scenes? Aboslutely, but I would be too, if I offered an incredible salary increase to keep him and he's looking elsewhere.

There's a lot more to this that will come out after Ek officially leaves for USC.
ST literally won this team at minimum 3 games lol

It’s hard to keep track of these claims. I’ve heard ST WON 2, 3, and even 4 games. Add that to the 3, or 4 games that EJ single handily won and that’s essentially the whole season.

It’s an amazing way to look at a football game/season.
Agreed. Special teams is important, no doubt. But I can only think of one time this year that I walked away saying thank goodness our ST was on point today, and I can't even remember the game. So to me its so damn fake to just throw out these numbers as fact in order to justify your view.

Maryland 85 yard kick return for a go ahead score to make 17-14 - we win by 3

Michigan state punt block for a TD
Michigan state kickoff fumble recovery

Northwestern kickoff return for TD we win by 6

Did you watch any of the games or just complain about people “complaining”
We certainly wouldn’t have made a bowl without the improvement on special teams. Our defense took a step back and the offense has been garbage for the last three years.
