Special Teams Coach Hot Board

He’s the TE coach, he coaches the TEs
And he's a pretty damn good TE coach at that.

His new contract will be tiny, not sure why folks are worried about that lol. Rhule can LITTERALLY replace him with a high school coach if he needs too, Satt has no leverage and fits in well with this staff.

Shoot, Rhule hired a TE coach out of high school for that position when he took the job. Again, a USC coach once told me the TE coach is just the head coaches drinking buddy because you either send them with the QB/WR coach for passing drills or down with the OL coach for blocking drills. It's very minimal 1 on 1 stuff. I do think now you could add a valuable person at that spot with recruiting ties somewhere, etc. I always thought Dan Jackson would be an excellent hire at TE coach for his connections in the state, just on the wrong side of the ball.

You're right though... If Rhule would have hired him as TE coach when he was hired instead of paying him a massive salary (he was one of the top12 highest paid OCs in the entire country) there wouldn't be any frustration over him being our TE coach.

Can’t believe we live in a world where we lose Ekeler because we want to pay Glenn Thomas and Marcus Satterfield more. Fire me into the sun
Of that was the case, sure you could be angry lol. If we end up losing Ek (looks pretty likely at this point), it has nothing to do with salary. Ek wants to coach LBs. But it doesn't appear that either Rhule or Aurich are comfortable with that decision right now.

I always found it odd when Rhule would say in his pressers that they would continue to use Eckler's teaching techniques after/or if he leaves. It never made sense why he would say that, but now the smoke kind of explains it.

Doesn't stay long anywhere. Damn good coach. Would stink to not have him on staff. 12 spots in 23 years. 10 places in 16 years since he's been a full time guy.

We’ve gone from “this report has nothing to it, don’t believe everything you read” to “well, he was always going to bail after one year.”

Losing Ekeler is a colossal failure. Full stop. Combine that with the swings and misses on DL, and it is not a great offseason for a guy whose staffing choices are already suspect at best.

Foley still unemployed?

Just throwing crap at the wall here, but maybe his work with the D for the bowl game was an audition or part of the interview process for a larger role in coaching here, and when that didn't result in him getting an expanded gig, he was out.
