Middays were always hit and miss but I didn’t mind harper

Matt said he's no longer with 1620. Common sense has got to say let go or laid off. I listened to him every morning that I could and he did not seem like a guy that was on his way out in the last week or two.

McAmateur is terrible to listen to.

I hope, as some have suggested, that Gary does an afternoon show on Hurrdat. That would make the transition away from any 1620 media much easier.

I like Nick Handley, but thought he was an odd fit with Gary Sharp. Handley had been hosting his own show and they then stick him with Gary and they are both host types of people. I think that if they were going to hire Handley, they should have given him his own show with a partner.

I thought that the Happer show was boring on his own, but will give him a chance with Mike Schaeffer as I really like Schaeffer. Not sure McMaster will be a success, but mid day slot is not a huge ratings booster. So, they can afford to go cheap here.

As far as Gary, I have loved listening to him since his days of hosting Sports Nightly and was happy when he came back to the Omaha/Nebraska market a few years ago. My guess is that his contract was up and 1620 saw this as a way to save money. I am sure Gary will pop up somewhere else like Hurdat, 93.7 or a podcast. Like listening to him on the weekend Average Joe podcast.

I honestly liked the dynamic between mcmaster and Gary. I'm sure Happer is a good dude but I found the midday show to be really boring so this is a bummer of a change.

I listen to the YT stream. They both look like they feel super awkward this morning and like they know they're the wrong ones in the current seats. It's weird.

I highly, highly doubt it was awkward because they didn't feel like they deserved the spot.

It was awkward, as they said, because they jumped into this with no prep. They might not even known about this change until this weekend, and Happer said he had other obligations Sunday and didn't even start thinking about the new show until late at night before a 6 a.m. start.

Then it sounds like they were barely ready to go at 6. Appraently the old show stasrted at 6:10 and one of them didn't realize the new show was moved up to 6 and barely sat down in the chair in time.

USC- I dont understand how this show still exists. Terrible show. I dont mind Bishop on his own and I have listened to Josh's I-80 Club and I think he is fine there, but USC is trash.

Have never listend to the show, but this seems to be the unaimous opinion of everyone I've ever heard talk about the show. Yeah, Happer got a little defensive this morning about it. "You guys don't know what you're talking about. That is a great radio show done by professional, prepared, great hosts. Etc." I was like, dude, you appear to be alone in that opinion.

But like you said, someone must listen. Those two have been doing the show for 11 years now. You don't last that long if no one is listening.

People don’t want to say it, cause he played for the Huskers in the 90s and he’s a positive member of the Omaha community. But Benning is flat out TERRIBLE on the radio, always has been. Talks too slow and quiet, so you can never get the volume right. Just speak into the mic Damon and stop trying to sound all cool and smooth. Also stop looking up words on google to use on air, it so obvious and awkward. Lastly, you don’t need a 3 page dissertation to make every point, you already talk slow enough. Eventually people lose interest in what you’re saying because you drone on and on taking forever to make your point when everyone completely understood exactly what you were getting at 5 minutes ago.

He seems like a good dude, so eviscerating his radio skills and style isn’t fun. But I just can’t pretend like everyone else that he isn’t just the worst. Don’t think it would matter who he is with, it hasn’t so far.

So NRG replaced 1180 AM which was all national sports programming with Yacht Rock last week with 1 or 2 local hosts. Knowing how corporations work, I’m sure they needed to cut costs somewhere else locally.

In essence, Christopher Cross and Air Supply are responsible for Sharp getting canned!😡

I'm a fan of Damon's and disagree with most of what you wrote, but the below is absolutely correct and it's annoying he can't get this figured out after so many years on the air.
