Have there been any coaches who have been unequivocally mid through three years that ended up being elite?

But realistically:

Kirk Ferentz at Cockeye
Saban at MSU
Frank Beamer at VTech
Dabo at Clemson (a little above .500)
Harbaugh at Stanford
Fat Bert at Illinois

That’s fair. I figured we were talking about successful, like double digit wins in year 4-5 type success.

Elite coaches are like 1 in a hundred.
Pretty much all the guys wildcat listed won 10+ a bunch after up and down starts

Beamer took longer

If Rhule didn't have success at two places prior to here I'd be very worried. However, it does worry me that getting good in the B1G or SEC is a much different animal than what was needed in the American Athletic Conference or even the Big12.

I also really believe that continuity can help mask talent gaps, coaching inefficiencies, etc. Us hiring 7 coordinators in 3 seasons, going mobile QB with Sims, shifting to more pocket passer with Raiola for two years, now going back to mobile QB in year 4, all of that makes it difficult to continue to ascend and grow as a team as quick as you could be.

I’m willing to give Rhule the benefit of the doubt until we see how the portal haul shakes out this year. The whole recruiting thesis this year was built around making a big move with the portal. If that doesn’t play out then I’m willing to push the panic button at that point.

Most important offseason I can remember for the Huskers. You have to bring in a ton of help.

Yeah, it’s pretty much do or die for Rhule by my estimation, although he may end up getting another year regardless of how 26 shakes out. The good news is that it’s easier than ever to reset your roster so there’s always hope with the next guy!

He will be here in 2027. We are going to have a tough 2026 though IMO, everyone else is going to try and get better in the portal too so it's not like we will have some magic wand.

Yeah I don’t see us making a huge jump record wise given what the schedule looks like, but it’s going to take a big lift just to get back to our record this year.
