See, I’ve got faith in some of the pieces we have on the DL. RVP, Williams, Davis, and Kade I like. You’ll find ZERO disagreement from me that we need to get bigger up front though and I thought it was monumentally stupid to not acknowledge that fact this time last year. Teams like Minnesota scared the shit out of me. I’m not saying that after the fact. I made this point last spring.
If you can add the 3 from SDSU and add a big ten level DT or two I think we’ll be in good shape there. I’m projecting some good improvement from some guys. But I don’t think it’s outlandish to believe guys like RVP, Kade, Williams, and Davis will all take some very nice steps forward.
Shavers staying is huge for me and if you add him to Chambliss from SDSU all of a sudden I like where we are at with LB.
Offense? I’ve got no idea who we are or who we want to be. Hopefully we can answer those questions with who we bring in with the portal.
On offense -
QB - 2 Need to find your starter. I love what Holgo has done historically, but as a group this offense was not nearly up to expectation. Huge year for Holgo and huge opportunity to show us he’s still that dude.
RB - 1.5? Nelson showed that he can be a solid 2 in this league yesterday IMO. That might have been the one thing we can see from that game. I need a bell cow here.
OL - I think you need 2 starters minimum. I also need to see the guys currently here show me some improvement. I need guys like Brix to make some splashes this spring.
All in all, I think you need 15-20 guys that fall into your two deep. That’s not going to be easy and you can’t afford to miss on guys like Watson-Trent. Does 9-12m get this done??? Can Pat Stewart effectively flip how we build our roster? How does roster building change? How do we mitigate risk? How do we get all of these guys to come in ready to play together? Add to it that many things are changing with a new defensive coordinator and our offense is also changing.
We need a lot to break our way that generally doesn’t for many teams. On top of it all, the schedule is brutal. This is a monumental task. If Rhule can get us to 8 regular season wins next year it will be one hell of a job. It has to start NOW. Cannot overstate how important January is for this program.

The thing about message boards is though that you can generally see and find what you are looking for.
Everything is not fine. We’ve all acknowledged that. But the fact is that Nebraska is not firing Rhule next year regardless of the result. We are not eating that much salary. I’ll go as far to say that he might be here until 2028 regardless of 26 and 27 results.
So save the “fire Rhule” in every thread for that time.
