Ya, I don’t disagree, but obviously TT and Indiana nailed the portal talent eval too. We’ve been pretty bad at it and I think Rhule knows it, thus the Pat Stewart hire. Very excited to see his impact on our roster and how he goes about the portal different than past years.

Rhule’s 1st portal was straight  Last year wasn’t too bad. I just don’t know why we didn’t try to bring in 1-2 players with some experience on DL last year? Don’t get that move, or lack of a move at all.

Yea most of the players he brought in last year weren’t busts. You’re right with the interior d line. Butler wasn’t full of shit when he brought up the problems.

It would be interesting to know how much money we have wasted on head coaches, ADs, and assistants post Tom Osborne. I bet we are pretty high on that list.
IIRC We were #1 at one point at least temporarily (when paying both Riley and Bo at the same time).

Ah the good old days.

Butler was on staff before portal season opened up. He should share just as much responsibility and blame as everyone else on staff. His bitching an moaning is just as much as his doing

How do you know? For all we know he wanted a d tackle or two. We gave the offense more help and they sucked more.

NU fans are all in on Holgorsen

We are?

Returning QB room next year:
Marcos Davilia
TJ Lateef
Luke Longval - walk on
Bode Soukup - walk on

It’s a barren wasteland with no hs QB in the 2026 class. Need two transfers one legit and a second that will add depth and competition.

My thought as well. You always want to have at least two guys who have legit starter potential on your roster. I'm curious how Davila looks. Once upon a time he was a 4* guy, does he have any realistic potential?

Davila can't run

Umm part of his job is to recruit… if he didn’t like the players he knew would be here this season after being their last year, go out and fucking recruit. Or get on your position coaches asses to recruit.
Don’t use the excuse we didn’t have a line coach to recruit, a good coordinator would step in and recruit until the spot was filled.

He became d coordinator before Bradden was hired, no reason he couldn’t have his hand in dl
recruitment/retainment.

It’s a silly excuse to say he didn’t have any influence on his players.

8 out of the 16 transfers last year were defensive players. 6 offense 2 defensive. Plenty of room for hims to have his input

Why would we believe we can get him? There is at least some reason to believe we may have made overtures to him before and we were rebuffed. Also, he doesn't have to enter the portal until after Ohio St finishes its CFP run. Are we going to wait? What if we don't get him then - there will be some high-rolling bidders, I would guess? How do we know how much we can spend on other positions in the meantime?

Yes - we should take him over Minchey if we are sure we can get him and know the cost and we still have enough money to bolster other holes. But at least the first two things on that list are not likely to be the case.
Pierre SD kid whose family has Nebraska connections.

If he goes and grabs 15+ guys from the portal it’s gonna tell you all you need to know. He’ll be admitting that the developmental talk was either fluff or didn’t work. Or that they whiffed on talent eval.
They don't have the room for 15 portal kids and they know it. Taking 6 is going to be pushing the window on what they can do. Keep in mind that at the end of the season we had 126 players on roster with 19 Seniors, not all of whom might be leaving. We took a class of 9, and our objective, legally, is to be at 105 by January 2030. That means we can't back fill every senior we lose. This roster HAS to be BELOW 126 when the Fall Camp begins, it doesn't have to be 105 due to the grandfathering, but it has to be below 126.

We will absolutely, without a doubt, take more than 6 portal players.

See it doesn't work that way under the agreement. The entire grandfathering arrangement required by the FDC9 judge was to PROTECT players from that kind of action. They can only leave of their OWN volition and then it must be financially equivalent to their prior status.

I don’t think you’re living in reality

No ...... I AM living in reality, but there are a ton of people who don't comprehend exactly how this decision is going to alter how the TP in particular, and recruiting overall are going to be impacted over the next few years in particular. If you didn't notice that recruited class sizes are significantly lower for most schools this year, you weren't paying attention.

In the last 5 years it has been the wild west as far as class sizes, with schools regularly taking classes of 30 to 36 players. Do the math and realize that under the new rules EVERY player on your team whether scholarship or not, counts against your 105 roster limit.

And just so you know this is the same rule for roster limits on ALL sports now; whether women's or men's. This is why baseball rosters are in flux this year.

Just a few years ago 2023 NU's football roster was 154 players ....

Yeah, I’m sure players will be sticking around when we tell them they’ll never see another minute of playing time or a practice rep again. The fact that you can’t actually cut them doesn’t mean that practically we can’t make room.

a lot of the guys who are at the bottom end of the roster are not getting revenue share or even scholarships. so them leaving for any other program is financially equal, or better if they get a scholly at a smaller school

You forget that they were often getting services through the university that were not the same as other students none athletic students. Those things have a calculable value.

Keep this in mind; the judge was really against the 105 limit, and in essence wanted the rosters to not change, but that meant that the schools under the settlement could have a financial liability to those large numbers of players that they didn't want to have. So there is this push and pull in the different interests involved in this case, including the Judge; who wants to never see this case again.

There is nothing beautiful about this settlement; it is sausage making at its most disgusting level, and I am positive it is going to end up in the Congress for final resolution. There is really no other way forward.

At the very bottom of this is the Sherman Anti-trust issues for the universities and what ever governing agencies act in their behalf. That issue can only be finally resolved by Congress alone.
