As we near the Christmas holiday, I thought we'd share our more normal Christmas traditions. Here I present a typical Swedish Chef demonstrating traditional Swedish Christmas meal traditions .....

A new one the wife and I started a few years back, after our town's parade of lights, we go see Santa then run home and throw on pj's and grab hot chocolate and cruise around looking at Christmas lights. The kids love it, then they pass out and sleep like babies.

When I was younger, one of my favorites was after the white elephant gift exchange, all the guys would go on my uncles back porch and pass around a bottle of Wild Turkey until everyone was trashed and it was gone.

Christmas Eve growing up was always a smorgasbord meal. Swedish meatballs, cheese tray, pickled herring (yuck), deviled eggs, Christmas cookies, etc. Then we’d open gifts. Never failed my mom would say, “All that work buying and wrapping gifts and it’s over in 20 minutes.”

Christmas Eve soup with extended family then Christmas morning egg casserole bake and cinnamon rolls with my parents and sister when I was younger. My sister has since added in a pajama theme for all of us now that we both are married and have kids. Basically my parents, her husband and kids, my wife and son all have matching themed PJs Christmas morning.

My German mother would slow cook German sausage, sauerkraut and potatoes for Christmas Eve dinner. I miss the hell out of that.

Christmas Day dinner used to be the full monty, very similar to Thanksgiving, which I loved, but my whiny bitch of a little sister complained about and we did whatever she wanted. Lasagna, tacos, whatever the little heffer liked at the time.

Now I do pheasant spaghetti and pheasant Nebraska on Christmas Eve, and we’ll typically do a turkey with all the usuals for Christmas Day. Bonus is it keeps me out of the liquor until later in the day.

Chances are that the oyster stew you had was made with canned oysters. Ick! Fresh oysters are an entirely different thing. The chefs in New Orleans make oysters so good you will have a hard time forgetting just how great they are;

When i went there a couple years ago we had some char grilled oysters at the end of bourbon street. I was too drunk to remember the name, but they were awesome.

Our bachelor party adventure on Bourbon St was something I'll never forget.

Sound like you might have forgotten some of it...unless of course these statements were documenting two different visits.

Had very similar. Very German Christmas Eve with what you mentioned and Gluhwein. Christmas was always prime rib.

Growing up I always wondered why people outside of my family celebrated on Christmas Day instead of Christmas Eve.

German Christmas FTW

Always remember Lutefisk, Potatis Korv and Pepparkakors at my grandma's.

Don't think the Lutefisk tradition will survive. Nowadays we usually do king crab on Christmas Eve.
My grandma also always made Lutefisk. Fucking disgusting lol
