While I agree former Huskers or people that formally were influential when we were good had to much influence, not exactly sure I'm mad at Rhule for grabbing a 5 star legacy QB that came with some things we had to do such as accept his brothers commitment and keep his uncle on staff. Dylan Raiola has gotten us to a bowl game both years he was here when we hadn't done that since 2016.

#4 few buddies of mine and I have been talking most of this season, that we don’t have the core around Dylan to really make him shine. An offensive line that hasn’t been as advertised and WR core that is pretty good not great. That’s why this offense might be better off overall with a qb like Lateef that can be mobile and deal with an inevitable break down that requires a qb to improvise more. If he had stayed with Georgia or Ohio state he would probably look VERY good. Even with the supposed “money to buy anyone in the country” now it would take a couple of more seasons to get that COMPLETE core around him to fully take advantage of Dylan. Sucks that we will probably lose a legacy player after this season to a different school but that’s the way college football is now. If he stays, and I hope he does, Rhule needs to get the O line in shape starting with either a different o-line coach OR bringing in another one to help Donnie.
Spot on. And the reason I put 2.5 on Dylan initially is because if we are only 6-6 or 7-5 they will say he needs more pieces around him to truly bring out the best in him. All speculation on my part but I can see it.

The strange thing about the theory that Rhule told Dayton he doesn't have a spot (skill level, change of style, whatever) is this....

We know Rhule thinks a few moves ahead and knows that a move like this would immediately result in a hundred questions about Dylan's future with the team. A guy like Rhule would want to have that under control and would make sure Dylan/Dom/Don all had a heads up and would have Dylan at a minimum prepare a tweet or post about staying and it all being a part of "God's plan" or whatever. #Huskerforlife #GBR #QB1.

But as of yet, nothing from Dylan. That strikes me as odd.

I think there is a final weekly PC today.
Gonna be a fun one. Of course this will need to be addressed, even if Rhule can't comment on recruits by name. He can definitely comment on Dylan.

You don't need 500 yards rushing from the QB, it'd be nice, but not necessary.

If you can get 180 rushing yards from your QB instead of -60 it's a net +20 on the per game season average. This year, for example, that change alone would take us from 90th in rushing at 137/game to 69th at 157/game. Total offense would go from 71st (385/game) to 56th (405/game). Those little things are a huuuuge difference.
Agree... you don't need Crouch/Lord/Armstrong type stuff. Just give me a guy that they have to worry about.

I bring this up everytime someone uses it as a knock on our Blackshirts that we struggle with a mobile QB... can someone find me any article where a defense was playing a mobile QB and that defense "really shines when having to account for another person in the run game and need to put an extra defender in the box"?

Highly doubt this has anything to do with Dylan…I think he’s just not seeing much of a path forward as playing time is concerned.

He’s the 1602 overall prospect in the 2026 class…he knows N is going to be recruiting over his head. Looking for a more realistic path forward, (which is smart on his part).

Here is another tell that I picked up on right away yesterday: Holgo said the UCLA game was the most-efficent the offense has been all year. That was a no-so-subtle statement on his vision for direction of the offense.
To be fair, it was our second most efficient game (only counting P4 opponents). Maryland was #1 despite the 3 turnovers.

@ Maryland - 59 plays - 453 yards - 34 points. 7.68 yards/play - 0.58 pts/play
@ UCLA - 54 plays - 361 yards - 28 points. 6.69 yards/play - 0.52 pts/play

But the point remains. 361 yards was our 2nd highest yardage output (!!). We hadn't gone over 300 yards of offense since Maryland (!!). The offense hadn't been living up to expectations all season. Akron was a bit of fools gold. We led ourselves to believe that only elite offenses put up 60+ points and 700+ yards no matter who the opponent, and that was wrong. Something was exposed after Michgan and most teams were able to duplicate it and stymie us.

Sorry for the digression.

I kind of wonder if maybe that last visit didnt go something like:
Dayton: "coach, Lateef is looking pretty good. How are you thinking I'll fit in?"
Rhule: "Look, Lateef is next up and we got Trae coming in the year after and he's the truth. We'll give you a chance to compete, but its not looking good."

Paraphrasing, of course, because I imagine someone swore during this convo too.

That’s my vision of how it would go down.

Dom isn’t an idiot and probably saw the writing on the wall with Lateef’s performance against UCLA

None of that is really a new development tho.
He knew at minimum his brother would be here for 1 year with him. Most likely 2. And then Nebraska has had Lateef this whole time and the other 2027 dude committed for a while now.

I honestly think Lateef showing up under the lights last week changes the calculus for the Raiola family.
